what should i do when i go on vacation...? how long can they last with out water....? should i start flowering them? turn the light off for 2 weeks? yikes.

Hi man,

turning off the light for two weeks would be like starting from clone when you come back. Everything will be yellow if not dead.

If you feel comfortable leaving a light going on in a closet and that no fans will go down on you, i say go for it. But PLEASE make sure everything is fixed to its place, wiring, etc. Be carefull if you go down the "unattended lights in a closet" way.

Watering is the easy part. Many ways to get away. A pump on a timer, a dripper or you can place your pots in trays filled with water and pebbles or stones or bricks. Just lay your pots on top of the pebbles/stones/bricks. There will be enough humidity for them to survive.

Two weeks would be EXTREMELY rought w/out SOME help... I've done a week w/out a problem.. what I did was to REPOT just before going..that way there is EXCESS soil around the root ball(you can cut it down as well)..water well JUST before leaving(I DONT use ferts this time as you want it alive but NOTHING more)... I ALSO shut of my 1k light and installed a couple sets of 40w fluro's..A week is NOT an issue this way(2 gal pots up from 6" pots). I HAVE in the past made up a resevor watering system set up on a timer.. if you leave on a Mon..have it hit em on Thur and Mon(set time for BEFORE you leave or turn it on so it skips the 1st watering on Mon). NOT difficult to do...also use TAP water as the chlorine will help keep the water clean/slime free. Pretty much a drip system w/out the drip and short watering time.

^^^ Same here, repot before you go on vaca. Place drip tray under pots and before you leave, make sure plants are drenched and drip tray is full. Lower temp in room and raise lights. If you can go 12/12 then do it the day you leave, but you will have to raise lights. The prob. with this is that plants stretch and you could run into probs. with a 2 week vaca. I have done 9 days and that was pushing it.
Create a wick system. Place a 5 gal pot full of water in room above plants. Drill a hole into side of pots that hold plants and make sure you drill into soil. Buy some cotton rope, cut into pieces and place into 5 gal pot full of water. Place the other ends into hole you just drilled in planter pots. This will draw water into plants but only a little. This works, but if you have big plants it's pushing it.
There are self water device as well on the internet. You will have to get creative, but 2 weeks will be tough. Plants grow a lot in 2 weeks. One time mine grew right into the light and burned the crap out of them at 7 days.

I wouldnt abandon my plants in the first 3 week flowering. They're growing too much in that phase and need allmost daily attention.
Anyway, before going on vacacions i turn off the HPS, turn on a Fluo lamp and "overwater" pots. 7-10 days they will be fine.

I tried to upload the pictures and type a description, but IC is doing maintenance so I have provide offsite links.

These two products are similar. They are watering spikes. Screw a 1,2, or 3 liter bottle filled with water to the spike push spike down into the soil. Plants are slowly watered.

This one has a control device that lets you set the water flow

This one does not

This one is just too cool. It's call Drip Mate. It's in the middle of the page. Each plant will have it's own little sprinkler. I want one....

I used the third one on your list and did work, but not enough. It's kind of cheap. I like the water bottle idea with the spike
