What to do about field mice and gophers?

Put some small girls out on July 1st, legalization day, for a buddy and the field mice are eating the branches and gophers popping up under plants. Is there going to be anyway to grow in the ground here?

Been setting mousetraps but they get the food without setting them off... Since the photo I put chicken wire around the base of the cages but they are tunneling under the cages.

Gopher spray isn't working. Been trapping gophers but I guess the neighbor let's them breed so they never stop.

What to do? I need advice for future grows here.

When I use mousetraps....

I use chunky peanut butter....

find a nice hunk a peanut and wedge that into the food thingy.....

then add a bit of the smoooth stuff....

A really smart mouse will leave that piece of peanut behind......but there are few of those that can resist that peanut...

Don't know about gophers and mice. I use mothballs for the squirrels, rabbits, and raccoons around here. It also helps cover the weed smell. The mothballs only last a few weeks outside, so buy some at the dollar store or else it will get pricey.

Try pissing around the plants. Not sure if it will work for mice and gophers, but we did it to keep the deer from eating small plants
