What the hell is a bubble bucket?

Having been out of the scene for a few years i am intrigued by these bubble bucket things. Do they have any sort of medium in them? Do the bubbles go when the light are off? Does the nutrient circulate in them? And are they any good?

I will just add this to what was said.

All air run's 24/7 this keep's the water turning some and is what cause's the water to be circulated. A few have found power head's to help turn the water and are used in larger bubbler tub's.

There are a few draw back's to them, but if all is dailed in they are a very explosive way to grow the plant.

Water temp is the biggest issue I can think of with the bubble bucket's. It get's to warm and you can lose the girls real fast.
