What the hell? Hermies!!!

I just got done with a four plant grow. Early in the girl I detected one plant that was her maid so I got rid of it. I just harvested the other three and they were beautiful frosty unbelievable giant Cole is just a joy to look at. All females for sure. Or so I thought. One plant has seedson some of the lower popcorn buds and even some of the big coal is. It's not loaded with seeds but it does have seeds. How and why did this happen. The plants are frosty and beautiful they look just like the other female plants and had all kinds of indications that they were female. I didn't even notice the seeds until I was harvesting the plant. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Also can I use the same space to grow now? I'm getting ready to start another round and I'm worried that mail pollen is in the air. Should I spray the room down with Clorox or hydrogen peroxide?

I happens. I grew out some of those seeds and had an excellent white jones by "I don't know who knocked her up". It was great ganja. I believe ChemD was a hermi seed too. Could be some great shit in those seeds.

Exactly!!! Reliable genes... The seeds that harmied were Girl Scout Cookie from BCBD. Not only did they hermit, they weren't even GSC... Fuck that place. Ill never get seeds from there again...

Yeah it happens. Sometimes a little male banana will go unnoticed... Unless you examine every single bud on every single plant with a fine tooth comb, a little hermaphroidte flower growing out of a bud can be pretty easily missed.

There shouldn't be any pollen left in the air. Water kills pollen anyway. So just spray some plain water in the room if you're worried about it.

Are you sure your room is completely dark/black at night? Even the tiniest amount of light can cause a hermie flower to grow.

all cannabis plants are capable of producing stamen regardless of expressed sex. it's genetics for survival.
in my experience , hermies can be just as potent but the seeds do detract from florescence reducing smokable yield... you can select out the propensity to show both sexes.
...and there are more triggers than just light leaks. overwatering, underwatering, temperature swings, broken light cycles, chemicals...
like said above, some very good smoke discovered in bagseed, most likely hermaphrodite.

be at peace with her.

Rarely does a breeder/seedbank sell Hermies often its the ignorance of the grower
and more so if a new grower.
Understand any stress on your plant can make it herm(become a hermaphrodite)
silly nooby stuff like allowing light leaks, defoliating, disruptive times etc etc
really the list is endless, as to what causes a herm and most the time its the grower being a goofball, blaming others for his own faults,
now I heard that some place else here too?

Nope.... total baloney......

Herms are almost all about genetics....

And I can prove it....mostly.....

take any plant that did not show male from seed during its first flower....and its cuttings will very rarely be hermaphroditic.....

do pretty much anything...... no male flowers.....

Fart... walk naked.... sneeze..... around a seed plant and its "stressed"

In this case we are talking about seed plants which were hermies....

genetics......

You have been hoodwinked by breeders my friend.....

any strains can hermy when grown from seed. you should be looking for hermies all the time. anyway sounds like some pollen from your hermy plant that was blowing around. just wipe down the walls with some cleaner before your next run and you should be fine. look and see if you find any male flowers in your buds. this will tell for sure if any of the other plants hermied late in flower.

There are hermaphrodites, plants with male and female flowers that will seed the hell out of your whole crop, and then there are those females, that late in bloom will make a few nanners out of frustration and desire for survival. To me it's no big deal. Watch for them and pluck them out of the female colas. If it makes a few seed, they will be fems and may be great smoke. These will cause you to have a few seed that may not even mature. Good luck. -granger

As you suggest there are two types of hermies....

Generally the two types are called balls and 'nanners....

Biologically speaking..... balls are called incomplete flowers....

while nanners are complete flowers....meaning they have both male and female parts in the same flower...... the balls type has both sexes but they are in separate flowers.....

The balls type can really mess you up.....like you say.....

thats because they can dangle...and the pollen can get airborn...

Now the point of this post.....

My feeling on the nanners.....leave them be.....

If you try to remove them you will usually create seeds.....

The explanation imo....is that these male parts are close to moist female parts and the male parts normally dont burst open......

Ive tried it both ways..... and now I just leave the nanners alone.....:)

Would repeatedly spraying water mist on the nanners & pistil hairs help control pollen?

I did that. Paternity results next month. :D

I think thats exactly what happened. The buds were beautiful and mostly completely female. There are some seeds but not a ton and now I have a handful of female seeds of Tangerine Power from Barneys Farm. Good genetics and a great smoke... Thanks for the reply

Yeah man a full-on herm plant will knock up your whole room no doubt. Females with a nanner will just produce a few seeds usually, which is what you are describing.
From my experience, don't bother with seeds from full-on herm sperm, as you'll likely get more of the same. The seeds you have however, MIGHT be worthwhile and will almost undoubtedly be female...for the most part. It will need to be monitored closely though, as a couple nanners from them is likely IMO.

About balls and nanners, the balls open up and the nanners are inside. So the nanners, all in a cluster, make up the ball. When the ball matures and is ready to drop its payload, it opens up to look like a bunch of bananas. Those bananas open up and spread their love dust.
So then to my understanding, the nanner would be the incomplete flower, the ball a complete flower. Like if a male plant just had a calyx or two...not a female flower proper, just a bit of one. Just my observations, I may be wrong.
