What temp do plants turn purple?

I would do a search but I don't know how...

Weather says my temp tonight will be 63 degrees. At what point do most plants turn purple? Will all plants turn purple?

weird i left the keyboard with this unposted and i get back its on the thread....

IMO it has more to due with temperature. Not strain. We have nights here in the 80s and days can get up to 110 and i get purple hues or spots. A specific strain hasnt shown more or less purple for me. Ive read it can get more purple with Low temps, but i dont think that is all there is to it, since i can get purple with high temps. Maybe its the difference in night and day. Possibly other environmental factors

its totaly strain dependant...but somewhere around 35 degrees F..
is that a typo? u must mean 53. . . .hehe you are right tho, it does have a lot to do with genetics. yes, many strains are pre-programmed purple genetically, but most strains will color up if given a cold dump into the low 50's.
Phos. is locked out in the low 50's (degrees Farenheit). keep in mind these numbers are for the root-zone. the green part of the plant doesnt have much to do with it.

hope this helps.

you mean this kind of purple ???

i don't know what temp brought this color out in this particular bagseed indica last year, but as you can see by the background, my sativas didn't get the same affect. it's strain dependant for sure.

in your case :)

you say you have no idea of what ground temps were, slyfox,
so how can you be so sure the green plants shown wouldnt have turned purple
if it had been cooler in the root zone?
some otherwise 'green' plants go purple when P. is locked out at these temps. some red, etc.-its fact.

only other reason you would get color is if you have too low a pH,
say, your hydrated lime is depleted by the end of the flower cycle..
some plants will turn pink, fuscia, etc. -
much the way pro gardeners manipulate Hydrangea to coax different colors according to pH.
more acidic = pinks, more alkaline = blues :smile:i do not recommend you try this with your weed tho :)

have a nice day :)

if temps drop under 18C (64F) at night, you have good chances to see some autumn colours ;)

of course, some plant will be purple without cold temps, thats genetic

no, i have no idea what the ground temps were, but... this was from my first grow. i had 8 plants in a 12 gallon tub. the roots grew out and i stacked another 12 gallon pot under it at one point to help with the rootbound issues. the sativas and the purple indicas (i had two of them that turned purple) were about 6 inches away from each other. at the same time, i had 2 other indicas in the same tub that did not turn purple, even though the other 2 did. based on this, it is strain dependant. good luck all.

thanks. it was actually my first grow last year. i got really lucky. planted a bunch of old bagseed in the ground, moved the best to the big pot. had 9 come up and 8 were females. glad i had such good luck to entice me into the hobby, because this year i have killed off about 15 males, but i am still about even on females.
just after i started growing i found OG and the other boards and now, here i am, waiting to harvest once again. good luck on your grow ethereal.

Well, I've got some great news. I am down to one plant, and it had not showed sex yet. I looked yesterday, and it has female preflowers. Hell yeah!! Even if I get just a little off of her, free weed is free weed, ya know? But she should stretch alot now.

We'll see if she purples, my nightime temps are getting down to lows of 58 degrees now.

it might be a bit too early to look for purpling in vegging plants.

If its temp triggered, its like in Autumn, end of the life cycle, chlorophyll leaves the leafes, leaving them yellow or any other colour, if it was could enough.

Meanwhile, you shouldn't cool em down that much, it will slow down growth ;)
