I'm trying to plan my ventilation and odor control for my upcoming fall grow. I'm probally going to go with a DIY carbon scrubber. How big of one should I make? also would it be good to have a duct running from the top of my relfector with an inline fan pulling hot air and stinky air to my carbon scrubber? and is the carbon scrubber better outside the growroom? or is it fine in the closet? any help would be appreciated.

Keep in mind that most carbon scrubbers are rated in cfms and need to be bought according to what kind of fan you have. Air should move slowly through the carbon to get all odors out. $50 sounds like a good deal though as long as it fits your fan.

For a 250w you don't need a huge scrubber so something smaller than a 5gal bucket should work fine.

The air fllow and scrubbing quality of a diy cant match a Can air filter for 50 bucks.A diy will add up to almost 50 bucks and whont last 18 months using the BEST activated charcoal CAN uses.Security is worth 50 bucks. I use may can 9000 with a 4" vortex on my 15 plant sog under a 600 hps. sd ibl and still NO smell. If you unscrew the lid on a can filter you can refill it too. I made a diy carbon filter..not worth it.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probally end up either making one or just getting one of those CAN 9000's. It would cost about the same. I need to get an inline too.

personally, i don't like to order anything online, so i went DIY.

for an area that small, i would think you could make one with a 4" inner core (to fit a 4" inline), a 6" outer shell, and 18-24" of filter length.

dollar saving tip: a small coffee can is close enough to 4" in diamater to fit 4" drier hose, and a big coffee can is close enough to 6" to work with the diy filter plans that are posted.

I might get one of those Stanley Blower Fans and a CAN 9000 Carbon Scrubber. Total would be about $100 or so. I'm sure the blower fan is powerful enough to pull air through a carbon scrubber.

Yeah I think Stanley blowers are like 2500cfm or something insane on max power. For the $40 price you can't beat it, you just need to mod it to accept ducting.

Yea! they are cheap. I read that the 2500 cfm is bullshit. They push like 265 cfm, but still that's more then enough power for me for a small carbon scrubber. I haven't decided how I'm going to run it though. I got to wait to see what my new room is going to be like then go from there.
