From what I've read it's anywhere from 3300 - 4000btu's for each 1000w, meaning your 1600w should be cooled by 5280 - 6400 btu's.....
So in theory your not short of the required BTU's but maybe your (SEER) rating aint great ie: the effeciency... is your unit a portable with a single hose, because I read that these are less effecient in general meaning the btu mark given isn't atually accurate.......
how warm is your room stayin?
what are the outside temps in your area?
what tempreture is the room without AC on?
yeah, they are air cooled. The ac seems like it's always running and that's only with 1000 watts hooked up so far. I haven't even turned on the 2nd 600.
I'm glad you started this thread. I thought i was alone fighting these high temps. I'm running 650W in a 4x4 room 8' tall and we were pushing 100 degrees for a day now were pumping all the air from a 6000btu and today it came down to the high 80's. That heat seemed pretty brutal. You might try building an enclosure around your grow and cool a smaller area, just a thought good luck.
I run a 10,000 btu with an average of 1400watts (1000 + 400 seperate room) running plus a t5 2bulb 2' unit, all hoods use a sealed external air cooling system(except T5) and my temps will stay around 82 in the 1k room and 77 in 400 room. During lights off things will get down in the 60's. I chose a whirlpool unit from bestbuy after spending 2 days going to every store in town and plugging up many units. The whirlpool felt like it had the most airflow from the vents, auto restart after a power failure, a seperate sleeve that mounts in the wall then the units slides in and a high energy star rating. Even on a 100 degree day, which we have had, my temps never exceeded 86 degrees according to my thermostats in various rooms. When you shop for ac, btu's means something but if you can't feel alot of air flow coming from the vents at the store then you won't be moving/cooling much air at home. Before this I ran a 5000 btu GE unit that ran non-stop for 5 days and never made a dent in the heat. If you use an online ac calculator, base your btu's needed as if your cooling a kitchen(lights radiating heat) with 4 people and round up on your square footage. Good luck.
I have a room with 1600 watts in it and no AC unit. I do have the lights exhausted with a 465 cfm fan blowing the hot air inthe the attic. My household ac duct blows the cool air over the tops of the plants and I have 1 oscilating fan pushing air around. The plants seem to be real happy, no heat problems at all except maybe RIGHT under the 1000 or 600 watt lights.
