What questions did you have as a new grower, waaay back when?

Hey All,

I'm curious as to the types of questions everyone here had when they first started growing. Also how you figured out or found the information you were looking for and a basic summary of what you understand now that you didn't back then. Make sense?

I'll be teaching some classes in the next few months and the information will help me get my brain in the right mode to anticipate possible questions. More than one experience with the same subject is even more valuable to me as I get more out of things when I have information from different viewpoints

I'm autistic and one of the issues I have is being able to track things long-term so I'm having difficulty pinning down my original questions from back then. Thanks

tellem not to pick their leaves off. i dunno how this got started but every newbie i know wants to pick all the "sucker" leaves off thier plants.


explain phtosythisis process & why all leaves are important!

I would do a bit on PH & nutrients too (tds & ec if you are teaching hydro techniques)

Well I see the female sign on the seed packs I just bought and ask can I buy some male seeds too?

I guess explaining the sexual nature of the plant would be a good one.. If you dig up the proper terms..

How can you tell if a plant is mature enough to bloom?
How do you determine plant sex by preflowers?
How do I maintain a sterile/clean grow room to avoid problems? (the only big big room I ever worked with I set up foot baths full of sterilizer at the entry door like we used on the farm in the greenhouses).
What are common diseases (fungal/etc) and how can I avoid/treat them?
What are common pests (in your area of course)and how can you identify and treat them?
What are the common nute deficiency symptoms?
How can you tell that a plant is ready to harvest?
Over vs underwatering
What are acceptable light sources for indoor cultivation? (my very first grow several decades ago was using fluorescents and mercury vapor lamps, turns out the second grow did better with just the fluorescents).
What are basic precautions I should take security wise?

I started out not having a clue about light leaks, odor, etc. Thank god my neighbor at the time actually came over, saw what was going on in our living room and CLOSED OUR BLINDS so no one else saw. This is probably the #1 thing that I had to learn about growing. Even if you're in a reliable area, even if you have tolerant neighbors, it's never a bad idea to appear to not be growing anything at all.

I would stock up on Marijuana Bibles or some good all-around textbook you can sell the class, there are soooo many topics to cover that they will need something to reference when needed.

Awesome question Goneforasmoke.... For the best help, you'll need to go to the infirmary and post your issue as as thread. That way people can post their help for you specifically and things don't get confused

Anyone know why the list of questions you should answer and post for your problems hasn't become a sticky in the infirmary yet?? Always wondered about that. (You know.... post at the top that says "How to use the Infirmary" or something like that)

Hey there Hydro-Soil!
When I first started growing outdoors way back when, my biggest question was the curing process. I had heard it was necessary, but in a day before OG, ICMag or the internet, I went through many badly cured harvests before I met the right people who taught me that a good cure can make or break a crop. As soon as I figured out how to cure properly, my mj took on a whole new element......taste and smoothness.... who would'a thunk it?
So anyway, curing was my biggest question, and to this day I don't skimp or hurry a good cure.

It's been 20+ days of 12/12 and I don't see buds.... What's wrong??
I had an immature plant I threw in once that didn't show sex for almost 30 days. Freaked me out LOL
