What nutes first?

New grower and we are doing things right this time. We have good soil finally. We have some nutes which are the Fox Far Big Bloom and Organic Gro Big nutrients. I have heard you should put some of these in during vegging and some only in flowering.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Hey there...

Well if your usin foxfarm they have a "schedule" which ill put up for ya...

They have pretty good recommendations... i would start looking into things like Liquid Karma, or Superthrive (some extra micro nutes).

im a big fan of foxfarm, I use their liquid concentrates...al tho i use slighting higher rates near the ends of the veg, and mid flower; seem to get awesome performance when its used in conjuction with liquid karma.

hope this helps

Cheers

Yeah I just don't know how to figure out how much nutes to put into the water. We don't have the watering down yet. I have heard different ways. Some people talk about flushing the pot until you see water leaking out the bottom every couple days. Some say to only spray the top.

Do you mix this stuff in gallon jugs or something?

Well,

you want to get the entire medium wet when you are watering... so letting it soak through till you see some come out the bottom is probably the best way...the roots are going to go where there is water...if your only gettin the top 2 inches of soil wet... your going to have alot of issues and problems assosiated with water stress.

I personally water till there is some that leaks out the bottom...To figure out when i need to water i generally use weight/feel... when you first fill the pots get used to the dry weight, then add the water then pick it up again, you will feel a major weight difference... basically you just go back and forth... mind you, the plants them selves will add some weight...so it will take some practice... but, youll get it.....

Yes, I have a bunch of gallon jugs in which I mix the ferts....makes it easier... but you could always do some math for difference sized containers you have...lol ^-^

*Edit* - sry forgot to answer ure main question...lol
On how much ferts to add to your water....

For a gallon, if you look at the chart youre going to want 10ml, or 2 tsp of grow big.... its pretty simple... if you have a 2 gallon jug you would add 20 ml or 4 tsp... and so on... The chart is pretty simple, making it easy to understand.... I wouldnt worry about adjusting rates anywhere yet, as you are just getting used to watering... their recommendations are fine for most plants and definitely can get you through getting used to watering...

Thanks. We have a dry soil test cup in with the plants now so we can compare. We have been exclusively using rain water as our main source of watering as we don't have a pH tester. That ok? I am trying to find a reliable pH tester so we can switch back to tap water.

yeah that should be good... if your not near any industrial complexes... the pH should be around 5.6...

good luck

Also, when I water, I do it in layers... meaning I water a little, let that soak in, water a bit more, let that soak in, and keep going until I see water at the bottom. The idea is that by the time you DO see water @ the bottom, you can be sure your entire medium is saturated.

For me, what happens when I DON'T do this is the medium will dry in about 75% of the time it takes it to dry with my method. And for me, that means less waterings and less maintenance.

Try it side by side with 2 of your girls and see what you think.
