TUPPER LAKE — A Quebec woman was charged Sunday with having 150 pounds of marijuana in her car here.
State Police based in Tupper Lake spotted a white SUV in the South Bay parking area about 1 a.m. Sunday, Bureau of Criminal Investigation Capt. Robert LaFountain said.
The driver, Laurie A. Albany, 42, of Kahnawake, was sitting alone in the front seat, and troopers stopped to check on her welfare. LaFountain said that when she opened the window, the troopers “detected a strong odor of marijuana.”
The officers searched the car and found four black duffle bags holding about 150 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, LaFountain said.
Hydroponic marijuana is cultivated under controlled conditions that makes it more potent.
Albany was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, as well as aggravated unlicensed operation and not possessing a valid driver’s license.
She was arraigned before Tupper Lake Town Justice Leonard Young III and sent to Franklin County Jail because she didn’t pay either $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
