Definitely not venomous, or at least not so much as to be a threat to humans.

Yeah its one of those crab like orb weavers. Suckers get big, guts are green.

Venom toxicity - the bite of Orb-Weaving Spiders is of low risk (not toxic) to humans. They are a non-aggressive group of spiders. Seldom bite. Be careful not to walk into their webs at night - the fright of this spider crawling over one's face can be terrifying and may cause a heart attack, particularly to the susceptible over 40 year olds.
Spider Identification - an adult is about 2/3 to more than 1 inch in body length - has a bulbous abdomen - often colorful - dark to light brown pattern. The common Golden Orb-Weaver Spider has a purplish bulbous abdomen with fine hairs.
Habitat - often found in summer in garden areas around the home - they spin a large circular web of 6 feet or more, often between buildings and shrubs, to snare flying insects, such as, flies and mosquitoes.

Oh jeeze! lol

I had one of these at my house last summer, but it was gray and black the freaking thing was huge.

Every other night it would spin about a 3 or 4 foot web between a small tree and my house, with the anchors about 8 feet. Then, just before dawn, it would gather up the entire web into a ball, somehow dissolve it and suck the liquid back up, then go hide in a crack in the tree. Super interesting bug.. It stuck around all summer, spinning it's giant web and then eating it only to spin it all over again..

a study was funded by a Hollywood studio and they found that the thing that gave men the creeps more than anything else was walking into spider webs, must be a knee jerk reaction from the dawn of time for us.......

I bought a set of pistons for my Harley a bunch of yrs ago & when I opened the box (from Texas) out crawled a black widow spider.

Spiders, especially those capable of catching (and eating) Birds, fascinate me!

I mean who else has 8 eyes? ;)

I was in my garage one day when I had a strange feeling I was being watched, I turned & looked up into the rafters to see a spider about this big, it had a leg spread the size of a catchers mitt. quietly I left the building and grabbed the .410 from my house.

I know you all have at one time or another swatted at a spider and missed it, that wasn't gonna happen here.......

I ventilated that fucker and then had the place sprayed by our local pesticide guy to take care of any potential young.
