WHAT KIND OF SOIL SHOULD I USE?

G

I have tried Fox Farm ocean forest and I like it, but it is too expensive. I tried Walmart Expert soil and killed 20 plants because it was too hot. What should I use? what soil can be used at every stage of growth?

I just go to a local nursery and find a soil that has nothing added to it... But then I do pretty intensive soil amending.. I pay less than $5 a bag almost all the time..

Use your own mix!!

Just get a small bail of peatmoss, topsoil, perilite, and cowmanure or compost!
Then mix a very light soil,at least half peat, and 1 third of topsoil and compost
add perilite its about 4 bucks a bag roots love air!thats it good luck!Lou

I use pro mix or sunshine mix, and add all the nutes via watering, none are added to the soil itself. It's super simple.

I agree with the Composer... pro mix is awesome. some would advise to add extra perlite but I've had perfect results with it right out of the bag. Keep it simple. Pro mix, G.H. Flora Nova nutes and regular old water = great weed! Peace....

^^^You can now get promix HP. The HP means High Porosity - a fancy way of saying that it has a lot more perlite in it than the normal promix.

Oh yeah, and you'll need to feed them @ full strength if you're using totally soiless mixes like promix. The plants are TOTALLY dependant on YOU to feed them when there's no nutes in the soil. But that's how I like it. The herb always tastes kickass when the only food is added via watering. This is because you'll be able to flush almost everything out of the soil before harvest. With soils that have organics built right in, you can't flush completely, and it shows in the final smoke wuality ;)

Normal pottin compost

Normal pottin compost

Then add manre or worm castins or wotever u like later in growth wen plants r bigger and they need the nutes. though i use bio-bizz all mix now mixed with coco and more perlite. its about £12.50 a bag.

Another vote for Pro-Mix. I just finished my first grow with it and am very happy with the results. No problems with anything related to the soil. Great root growth. I add 1/3 perlite to the mix and that's it.

Coco Coiur, Loam and peat. Thats what I'm going for next time round. Works out about 30 quid or 45 USD for that lot. Though it's more exspensive as you have to use extra nutes. IMO it will be worth the extra cash, if I can improve my final harvest weights and health and vigour of my baby's. Good luck and let us knw what you have opted for... :canabis:

I was at the hardware the other day and saw Schulz Garden Safe Organic Potting Mix. So I picked some up and I'm going to try it out and see what happens. Was pretty cheap, like $5 for a 16qt bag.

At home depot they have a deal right now. They have organic all purpose potting soul for only 2.19 USD a bag. Its made up of composted forest barks, perilite, sand, cow manure, and lime. Add some perilite to loosen it up and your ready to grow very inexpensively. Best bet if you want to stay organic and not pay out the ass for it.

A buddy of mine who's been growing for like 15 years just lost about 20 prized seeds in this stuff over the past week. Seems the Garden Safe mix had a bunch of super tiny white worms in it that fed off of the taproots from the new seedlings. Turned them to mush. Be careful.

Yeah I just planned on testing it with bagseed.

I make my own........from local outdoor choice soils....

I use the dead, SPONGY trees instead of vermaculite and perlite.

To kill insect I let it sit and treat with Neem oil/Dr. Bronner's Tea trea hemp soap...

No problems thus far...

I also add Plant-tone {from Lowes}, gypsom, and lime {pellets}. Along with the liquids from time to time {earth juice bloom and grow, PBP grow, flower and soil, along with Alaska fish emulsions {about to by the mor-bloom}....also Maxi-Crop..

I'm going to start using Earth-Juice natural PH up crystals {ph down too, Don't know if I'll ever need it though} when I get my grow back this july {probation pending :) }
