I have heard that music can positivily or negativly effect your plants based on genre. Do plants like classical, jazz, rap or rock? currently they are listening to smooth jazz... in high school i did an experiment with tomato plants and found that the tomato plants that listened to heavy metal were smaller and less vigorous then the ones i had listening to classical

let me know your opinions.

interesting info from mythbusters....

"Seven small greenhouses were set up on the M5 Industries roof. Four were set up with stereos playing endlessly looping recordings (as having the Mythbusters actually talk to the plants could contaminate the samples with their expelled carbon dioxide): Two of negative speech, two of positive speech (Kari and Scottie each made one positive and one negative soundtrack), a fifth with classical music and a sixth with intense death metal music. A seventh greenhouse, used as a control sample, had no stereo. The greenhouses with the recordings of speech grew better than the control, regardless of whether such talk was kind or angry. The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all."

they had opposite results as I did. the metal music grew the best plants, although classical was not far behind.

Hmm interesting. I would have thought this was crap if Mythbusters or some other organization had not actually tried to find out.

Interesting, what was the reasoning behind their results? BC

actually, I have read studies that show and suggest that even rap works better than death metal...

The reasons for this is that the plants are responding to the vibrations given off in the music...they found that the large heavy deep bass lines that caused air vibrations gave the highest growth rates. This was then tested using single low frequencies...from 20hz to 120hz. These low frequnecies are the tones that are used in heavy bass tracks for car audio as well....so naturally, they vibrated the air around the plants and increased the growth rates.

So I am not sure that it is MUSIC that does the trick....but that sound vibrates the air and therefore for whatever reason(s) increases growth....

My plants seem to like Hawaiian music.I pretty regularly eat beans and pineapple mixed together, and the plants grow like crazy. But,maybe it's really the "vibrations".

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Does this mean a subwoofer could be used to put out a constant stream of sound to increase yield?

How much more growth are we talking about here? Will I be sound proofing future grow rooms?

lol subwoofers

cops would bust every house booming music loud thinking there growin pot and start using it to get search warrants

better sound proof good i can see the dea riding around neighborhoods now with those super sound amplifiers looking for grows

im not sure if the effect of the vibrations is enough to be practical to do something like that- you never know though

I heard that all music can benefit and harm plants "vigor", the change is if the music was made with positive intentions and good vibes or bad,

so that most death metal is "kill, kill, kill," is mostly made with bad vibes but not all death metal is like that but the generalization i think puts it at a disadvantage to say reggae ( which i think is the best genre)

but i do a mix reggae, jazz, and some hiphop (ice cube "good day" only)

Well I wouldn't make it any louder to the outside than the fans and other stuff in my basement, and I don't do anything considered illegal where I live either.

My plants are constantly exposed to either grindcore, punk, etc, or roots reggae and they seem to love it!

I have heard its the movement of air that the plants respond too. So just use a fan.
