What is your watering schedule for seedlings?

Hey guys,

I been having quite the trouble getting any grows to complete. All of my grow attempts thus far have resulted in death on a biblical scale.

Originally I had issues with over-watering and damping off. I just could not use Coco Coir in the brick form no matter how much Perlite I put in.

I went to soil to simplify things and would start the seedlings in the 16oz party cups. Those I under-watered for fear of over-watering and they all died. I did put them in a humidity dome, and everything was going good, but apparently the soil got too dry.

So, being that I have a humidity dome and say 6 plants to start with in 16oz cups, how much and how often would you say to water them?

I mix the MG seed starter stuff 60/40 with Perlite and because I'm using CFLs, I can move the lights to generate more or less heat.

So I'm aiming for 65-70% RH, and a temp of around 75-80F.

Really wish I knew a local grower. You guys that do should consider yourselves very lucky!

Peace!

Forget the dome.

Water every other day after they sprout, every day until they do.

If they have air flow and light they will grow.

I use Rockwood cubes and can plant 99 in 5 minutes and have them all pop up in a few days

More importantly is observation. You could use a moisture meter if you wanted too. You'll get it after a while. Keep em soaked at first then let them get a little dry i between. Not too dry and not too wet. They'll tell you what's up.

Hard to make a schedule when the plants uptake dictates watering regime.

Weight is the easiest. Lift up the solo after a good watering (use a scale at first if you like), then lift every day after that. Once it loses about 1/4-1/3 it's weight, its usually time for water.

Freshy popped seeds do need more consistent moisture, though I think soaked is the wrong word.

Domes can be helpful but only until the seed breaks through. After that it's just a recipe for damping off.
