The solution: dissolve vegetable oil in a quart of water with just enough dishwashing liquid to dissolve the oil. Add pyrethrin from organic brands like Ecostyle or Safer.
Pyrethrin is safe to use as long as you don't get any on you, change your clothes and wash your face and hands in cold water after the spraying. It breaks down into organic compounds in a week.
The combo gets insects in a lot of ways - the pyrethrin paralyzes them, the oil suffocates them and their eggs and the soap dessicates any softbodied insects.

An all organic alternative I'm using outdoors is a 'Kombucha' (no SCOBY) fermentation of water, sugar and cannabis leaves. Just take an old alcohol bottle (the narrow neck is especially useful in keeping the leaves under the water/sugar mixture), fill 10% to 20% of sugar, add another 10% or 20% of leaves, fill with water until all the leaves are under the brine, let it stand in a warm dark place at least until the water turned lemonade yellow, and pour into another clean bottle for storage. You can even drink it, it is that healthy. It is a real tonic for the plants, which smells like vinegar and seems to slow down spidermites. And it's cheap, and anyone who has access to cannabis leaves can make it.
