What is this ball on the beginning of a flower?

This looks a bit unusual to me, I want to make sure it's not a hermie..
Possibly it's just a swollen base of the pistil though.

Let me know IC

Damn.. Only see one so far but we did have a hermie or something (still trying to figure out the exact source of pollen) that pollinated our entire crop of Mandala #1 that are in the tent. The OH SK #1 were in the tent too but they were very young at the time.

Is there still a chance that the OH SK#1 will get pollinated/seeded? Really don't want this to happen..
We sprayed down the tent with water hoping to get rid of all the pollen and vacuumed/cleaned it up

hermic-city :-( It could have been any kind of stress... light during budding? transfer? too much CO2? Nutrient/PH? I've had one crop myself like this... sorry bud

You're saying that this plant is a hermie?
Should I just pluck the pod off?

I really don't think it's any of these things.. We don't have ANY light leaks (The lightproof tent is inside a dark bedroom w/ the door/windows basically light free.), when we transplanted the roots weren't hurt at all, we haven't been using CO2, there is very good ventilation, and our temps/humidity haven't been unreasonable (avg of 75-80 deg and 40-60 humidity). This is pretty damn frustrating.. :wallbash:

Thanks for your help man :tiphat:

That's not a male flower...It looks like either a really swollen fat calyx, or it was pollinated from a stray male flower somewhere else on the plant or in the room. You can give it a crush or split it open and see if there's a seed forming. Look over every plant, every branch and look for tiny little balls or tiny yellow banana looking things. One thing I've noticed is when a plant gets pollinated, the white hairs pick up the pollen and somehow transfer it into the calyx and when that's done, the white hair turns red/brown way way before all the other un-pollinated hairs. I see a couple red ones in your pics..

Damn so many different replies :comfort:

Looks like a swollen calyx. I've had them on Kush plants and they produced no seeds and great bud.

I hope this is the case!

I believe the pollen that got released in the room was from a plant removed from the grow room over a month ago. It was put outside once we found seeds and now is harvested/curing.

We are closely examining all of our plants really frequently looking for these damn hermies.. Sure learned my lesson on this one.
I don't think any balls or nanners have showed up anywhere.. Everything now looks female or seeded in the room.

Some of the hairs are starting to turn orange though.. I've heard this happens pretty early with some strains but maybe you are on to something. Any other input on this? I really hope this plants not seeded too :tumbleweed:

its a seed, if it were a swollen calyx there would be others the same age the same size. the hairs turn brown/red/orange when pollinated.

if you dont see any nanners or sacks on the plant its likely from the old plant. if that is the problem i guess you could wipe down the walls with some bleach. good luck

take it easy,
peace

Wow.. SO many different opinions!

Does that mean that all the hairs that are red/orange are polinated and will create seeds?

We already sprayed down the walls w/ water but a more thorough wipedown might be needed..

I think that you need to just let it keep rollin, everyone is going to give you an opinion based on the 2 pics you posted. Yes it looks like a swollen calyx that could contain a seed, No that does not mean that it is a seed.

Did you split it open and look inside? if there is no seed then it is just a fat calyx,

No, just because you are seeing red hairs all over does not mean that the whole plant has been polinated.

Is their a fan in the room circulating air. if so then take it out and take it apart and clean it too.

I would say not to worry too bad, and ride it out. what ever happens has already happened so there is not much you can do but keep checking them and make sure you dont have some stray pollen still floating around.

Worst case scenerio you get a couple seeds and grow them out to get an awesome pheno.

Good luck

Also it takes approximately 4 weeks to make a seed an those flowers look no where 4 weeks old, to me it looks like they are about on week 2 in that pic.

These plants were flipped into 12/12 on the 22 of June. They are almost 7 weeks old.. They are just LONG flowering plants.

I really hope it's not a seed ;(

Damn seeds...

I cracked open the pod today and found a seed.. I then found a smaller immature seed on another plant.
DAMNIT!

Alot of our pistils are already brown/red. Does this mean that all of those flowers are pollinated or will only a few seeds popup?

Thanks for the help IC...
