what is the best size dirt pot for grow tents?

i have a nice 3.5' x 3.5' x 6.5' tent and am looking to use dirt pots for the first time. how big does the pot have to be to get the most efficient use of the space. i can only grow 5'-6' plants when done anyway, so i don't want to buy a 'too big' size for my needs. this time i'm trying a SOG. what gallon size should i buy? also, is there a difference between pot makers?

thanks guys!

depends on so many variable, and preference

what style of growing?
how long veg?
size of plant you want?
can you water daily?
lazy?

it's like asking what sports car to get.. when you didn't tell us if you like blondes or brunettes, american or european, you like getting drunk or doing coke, or maybe both... haha

I use small pots.. less waste, less money, less trash, less to carry, less to dump... I like the challenge of regulating the plant in small root space, it's not for beginners to keep plants in small pots though.. but I like it, and it's what I do.

what are you drawn to? 5 gallon buckets? SCROG with 20 gallon? SOG? topped plant in 2 gallon? ????????

ahh, got it. i'm leaning towards the 3 gals, as the dimensions will give me more space for plants. right now i use old school 5 gal plastic tubs and can only fit 9 plants in the tent, as the tubs take up so much room and they're round to boot. i'm picturing 5 rows of 5 plants all in 3 gallon grow bags trimmed for SoG ie: no branches on the bottom, under a 400w. i was just making sure not to buy them too small and get rootbound -- and smaller buds because of it.

I would do 3gal pots or less especially if you have tons of plants crammed in there.
The less plants you have, the better they will yield and perform in such a small area.
Flower them when they are less than 12" tall.

Go with 3 gallon aeration containers - fabric container or air-pot. You will enjoy the fast growth and higher yields come harvest.

Using 20 gals soil for a 600w, and abot 30gal dirt for 1000w is effective. Divided into the number of containers you're comfortable with. Proposing 25 plants x 3gal is more root space than a 400w can effectively fill. Hopefully this make sense homie ...peace!

Id make a box on the floor of the tent and fill it with a bail of sunshine mix or pro mix and a big bag of perlite then after you add handful of lime and some bat guano aswell as earth worm castings go ahead plant your 5 plants right in the raised bed and then just straight water for 8 weeks no need to ph and no need for drainage . Its really that simple . Be the best smoke you ever grow .

I make my raised beds 1ft tall and then line the boards and bottom with panda film . So for a 3.5 x3.5 x 1ft is 12.25 f2 and at 7 gal a square foot you have a 85 gal pot . Your not gogin to get any better then this in your space. Plants grow insanely fast using this method .

just did a run .. 2 gallons.. and 3 gallons.. vs.. 5 gallons.. the 5 gallons and 3 gallons yielded just about the same .. 3 gallons just needed to be watered more often. from now on.. im either runnin 3 ways.. 1 . sog in 1 gallon grow bags.. 2. large plants in 3 gallon grow bags.. and huge plants in 5 gallon grow bags.. 3.. Scrog.. 10 gallon grow bags for big guys small plant count.. and 5 gallon for more count..

a buddy I just found out grows.. was talking about it and hes going to do a test hes got plantin 2 gallon grow bagsat the moment. hes going to do all them into 5 gallons.. and 1 of each strain in 3 gallon bags. going to see which yields which..

3 gallons but sure like the way the Canada thinks with the one large bed, but it wouldn't be for everyone . . .

Canada- I agree on the raised bed technique. I have done 1-45 gallon pots for plants over the years... and one of my best results came from a 45 gallon pot... half vermicompost half castings. I used compost tea and such... needless to say the hawaiian sativa cross was perfectly green and healthy. Lots of plants are riding on the edge of nutrient deficiency... I like using humus to feed the plants... not salts.

Depends on alot of things...

I have very, very limited free time. As a result I don't have the time to devote to tending to tons of plants, so I prefer to grow fewer, but larger plants.

For me that means no more than 4 plants in 5 gallon containers at time in a 5x5 tent.

I do like the idea of a raised bed though..

I would look at 3 gallon plastic grow bags. I grow some trees in 3 gallons. The plastic grow bags work great.

Yeah, if plant numbers are an issue, and you already have a proven female; and you have time to wait... but yeah, this is could be a great option.
