I have used VitalEarthsPottingSoil for years. CC(a very knowledgeable member) turned me on to it. The web site is www.vitalearthsproducts.com and you can see if it is sold in your area. It is made in the N.W. coastal area and CC toured the factory and said they use good stuff. It contains Spagnum Moss, Earthworm bedding, compost,Megaworm castings and Pumice and glacial rock powder. I always throw a little powdered dolomite in just for luck. It is not too hot as I clone and start seedlings into it.

Too bad the quality has really fallen off I really liked Fox farms OF I used FFOF for years until I got a couple soggy bags dropped to me also found out the pest problem I had was the FFOF. When I do buy bag soil I use promix or roots organic I've seen people use black gold but I've never used it I found a nursery that can handle my needs for the fraction of the cost. I still use Fox Farm light warrior for starters though haven't seen much of a dip there.

If you're looking to go the organic route, I highly suggest trying Espoma organic potting mix or Dr. Earth organic potting soil or planting mix. If you use the planting mix add some perlite to loosen it up.

I have been using FFOF since 1999. The last few batches over the last 3 months have been very bad. The pH is too low in all of them and I end up having to flush all of the soil and add my GH nutes. It sucks. Hopefully they get this figured out and some better batches come out soon. It's been the biggest pain in the ass and has caused me many hours of work.

Dunno what's "best", but I've done well with roots organics greenfields & their original potting mix, which has more perlite. I added a bag of FFOF, worm castings & bone meal when I wanted two batches of soil, one growing & one aging. I also use azomite, their oregonism mycorrhiza & their organic nutrient line, if sparingly.

The girls seem to love it.
