I'm looking to get a carbon scrubber to go with 4" Vortex in my 3" x 2.5" and 7ft tall grow enclosed grow area. I want to get one that is small but good.
So everyone what kind do you have and how is it working for you?
I have the 4" vortex for my 6' tall by 4'x7' grow space. I used the smallest carbon scrubber they sold and it does a good job. My vent is 9' in the air. You can smell weed if you stick your nose within a foot during the last weeks of flower. My "low smell" NL x Big Bud reeked. Even the bonsai mum I keep reeks.
I am growing a smelly plant now and feel the need to get the bigger scrubber. I am growing Desiak from almighty seeds ( Lionheart x NYCD) and it is supposed to be
REALLY STINKY. I think the bigger the better now. Whatever the cost , it is cheaper than bail.
They work perfectly for me, and have for years. A lot of places carry them, so I'd check those out if you have a chance. I use the larger ones more suitable for hundreds of plants, but I know they also sell the small ones that might suit a 4" venting system.
Depending on the space you wish to use up it can vary. Building one is a great option, however if the size of the filter isn't a huge problem then buying one will save time. Built a few over the last year or so, and only advise it if you need a custom size. Building one can save up to 50 bucks, but buying one will save labor. How much is your time worth? At work I can make 50 bucks faster than gathering supplies and building the scrubber itself, but custom fit scrubbers are priceless. The work is also easier than building the scrubber (after building scrubbers my hands hurt like hell) There would be no other way to get one in my cab if it were "store bought" tho....
Remember you want your scrubber at the highest point of the room possible, cuz heat rises and heat holds tha stink....ya dig?
This is the latest custom build, the smallest one to date.....fits right in my c-13 along side of the 4 inch fan and ballast =) Stealth is my main concern...
Here is a view looking up from the bottom
I believe the smallest manufactured carbon filters come from "Phat Filters" maybe check into them.....not many places carry them tho
I built one myself that cost me around 50 dollars US and does just as good of a job as any can filter. When you build it yourself you can make it as large or as small as you need. The most expensive input is the carbon, but if bought in bulk you can get really good rates. Either way, safety is key. Good luck
