I'm not sure which question you're asking so I'll answer both.

If the hood lacks a flange to attach a hose, you'll have to add one yourself. See if the hood has a pop-out panel or other accomadation. If not, you'll have to cut a hole

If it's the old "square peg in a round hole" trick, they make adaptor plates. Any hydro store can supply either.

Better to pull. Connect intake to the hood, exhaust to the exit vent. Or you can put the fan outside the cab. Connect hood to exit vent, exit vent to intake.

When it comes to running ventilation, i like to remind myself about how air flows best with an article from HVAC people on Minimizing System Effect

Another usefull bit of info to have:
  • Smooth metal duct: Actual duct length x 1
  • Flex aluminum duct:
Actual duct length x 1.25 (for 4”diameter duct)
Actual duct length x 1.50 (for 6”diameter duct)
  • Insulated flex duct:
Actual duct length x 1.50 (for 4”diameter duct)
Actual duct length x 2.00 (for 6”diameter duct)
  • Wall caps and roof caps:
30 feet for each cap (for 4”diameter duct)
40 feet for each cap (for 6”diameter duct)
  • Elbows and turns:
15 feet for each (for 4”diameter duct)
20 feet for each (for 6”diameter duct)"

That info came from A Guide To Ventilation Exhaust Fans

You'll have to excuse me as I've never used a squirrel cage. If round is in and rectangular is out, then that will do just fine.

would this be the proper way to hook it up

Yes. Squirrel cage blowers (like Daytons) suck air in from the side (intake). As mentioned, You can buy adapters to convert both the intake and exhaust to accept vent tubing.

Nice links hurricane. You should really read those jimmie.
