I want to lower my light cycle but I dont want to start flowering. These are clones that I rooted at 24/0, now I want to veg them for a while at 18/6 but I know the 6 hour light loss would cause unwanted flowering.

i just lowered the light cycle by one hour every day and they didnt start to flower till i switched to 12/12.
hope this helps

I just set my light to what I want it to be.. It really doesn't matter and it's not going to make your plants flower unless you go with 12hrs or more of darkness

@ Jungle.Microbes,

so you mean even lets say you have 13 hours of darkness it donts matter at all to the plant?
this is very interesting, i thought it has to be 12 hours darkness to the point.

In my experience, the plant CAN easily flower with more than 12 hours of light. Trust me, if I was to drop from 24/0 to 18/6 overnight, or even by increments of 1 hour per day, the plant would start flowering again or be in a confused/halted state and I would see 3 or 1 leaved leaves growing instead of 5 or 7, this is what I am trying to avoid.

Since I am pressed for time, im thinking about lowering it 1 hour every 3 days and hoping the plants dont flower.

no, not to the point but 12 is an optimal range. we all go from 24 to 18 and it won't trigger the plant.

ive always gone from 24 to 18 n 6.. so 6 hrs in one day. plants shouldnt flower unless they are getting 12/12... at least mine never have... had some want to start at 14 n 10. my two cents

There are times in the winter where I would adjust my veg cycle to produce more or less heat.. Some days I would have it going 24/0, then on warmer days I cut it back as far as 14/10. My plants never missed a beat.

From hundreds of crosses , and many thousands of clones over the last twenty years , not a single one has been triggered into flowering by going from 24/0 in the bubbler to 18/6 in the veg box overnight.

Dropping an hour each night is usefull with dodgy genetics when going from 18/6 into 12/12 flower , definately stops SD and its crosses going intersex later on.

If your plant will carry on flowering properly and finish well under 18/6 light regime , with 50% extra light energy per day it could finish unusually fast , and a potentially usefull trait if it enables an additional crop per annum.

Ran the flower room on 13/11 for six months by mistake with no problems of any kind , trying 14/10 deliberately caused some sex issues with the usual suspects but solid plants were not bothered.

I have always rooted cuttings and a small portion of veg under 24 hour light, and then switch instantly to 18/6 when plants are 1 foot tall. Over a decade I have done this with various cuttings and seed and never once had a problem unless there was already an issue burried deep within the genetics. Just mho.

A couple weeks ago, i read a thread here on ICMAG where the OP researched what photoperiod would trigger flowering.

according to his research, flowering begins when the daylight is 14.25 hours or less.

stay safe. bg
