Hi all What happened to my babes? 1st, Went to Flush plant out, came in next day less then 24hrs and leafs just fell and turned brown in spots real dry at tops. Drinking NO water at all after Flush. What would do this?
It is a DWC system water is around 71 and ph was around 5.8 when put in when checked after dead ph was at 6.4. \
I always do the same thing everytime never had this problem and now it happened 2 times in a row. ONlLY on Flushing. never happened when I refill buckets.
The plants are not getting enough nutes before the flush, if they dont have enough build up to fall back on when you flush then they will die. The whole point of flushing is getting rid of excess nutes.
Got the answer for ya friend... DO NOT FLUSH!!! (NOTE:Unless harvest time)
I know, you're thinkin huh? Well if you think about what flushing does and what it is used for I think the reason will become clear.
When you run soil - even just watering can add micro nutrients to the soil such as Mg, Cal, etc. These build up over time in the soil medium. Flushing removes this buildup and clears the way so to speak for proper pH and plant health.
Now, when running hydro you can get this buildup in Rockwool type mediums and if that's all you're using (like in EbbFLow) then flushing is needed. However if you're running DWC the only buildup will be in the actual water that the roots are in. When you dump this water and replace it, you've completed a 'flush'. Even in the case of nute burn, disease, etc - your medium is water so it's not holding anything after it's changed out.
Flushing IS useful before harvest, as this removes all nutes from the rez and forces the plant to begin feeding on itself. Mind you, in this case flush = tap water only in the rez. It doesnt mean dump a gallon over the net pot/rockwool, as this wont really do much for ya.
