What does cut # mean?

When I hear gorilla glue #4, or og #18 I dont understand exactly what that means. Can anyone explain what the # is supposed to mean?

Does it mean the number of back crosses then the final cut? Only thing I can think of.

if you pop 5 seeds of the Super Skunk....to label each plant you would put Super Skunk #1, then Super Skunk #2 thru super Skunk #5...then if one is really better than the rest you know exactly which one it is.....also if you take cuts of each you mark them the same and you can keep track of each plant....every plant is different so identification is key...hope that helps...
