it looks a little pale green, but im more interested in the yellowing and browning on the edges, My guess would prolly lean towards mg/cal def. But without knowing the entire setup rundown, its kinda hard to tell from one pic.
Yeah I realized thereafter posting that it was a little vague. First off the soil is just the soil thats in my back yard, its an outdoor plant. Yes it is a little pale, thats due to the location I have it in the backyard. It doesn't get full light penetration all day due to LST, gotta keep it stealthy. I have some pics of the plant in my gallary, it's the big one from the two. I'm feeding her with "Expert Gardener" 24-8-16. Maybe I need to go get something else? I'm a newb to outdoor growing.
Your using basically the generic form of MG's all purpose plant food. Not bad stuff, but it will depend largely on the constituents in your "native soil". Did you amend it at all?
When growing in soil I use Jack's Classic 20-20-20(formerly Peters sold by Scotts sold to Spectrum...so they can't call it that anymore;-)) , but with slightly amended soil (pro-mix, verm/perl etc). Either way follow the instructions to a T and let the soil dry out a bit in between waterings.
Other than that, you don't look that bad overall if those are the plants that leaf came of...
EDIT: The rushes behind show me your a bit boggy, pH your soil. In addition you appear to be in a bit of a swail, if so check up hill for run off. Also if those are sumac in front you will be losing alot of sun!!!
DirtyBudz thanks for the input it is very informative. The first you mentioned was the temps. Well my daytime temps are hitting 110Fday/75night. Its the desert here but the MJ plants seem not to mind as bad as I originaly thought. The soil was not pre mixed just broke up a bit to give the plant some easy root penetration first off. I know I should have went with a pre-mix, but I had zero funds and some good gentics so I thought I would give it a shot. I'll cut the feedings down a little bit to see the reaction. Since I have a couple more months till fall here I have some time to keep this gal happy and healthy. peace
looks like a ph problem,, your gettin enough to keep it alive ,, but not thrive ,, so more than likely it is a ph prob,, can you get a ph reading on the soil ,, soak 2 tbl spoons of soil in water for 24 hours ,, take the ph reading with the plain water ,, record it,, and then after the soil soaked for 24 hours in the water check the ph again and note the difference. if it drops or raises it is a ph prob,, hope it helps! also ya may need cali. mag!
Your ferts lack calcium, magnesium, and sulfur. Usually organic matter will provide enough sulfur. So, you need cal mag.
Test soil ph. Get 1/4 cup of soil and mix with 1/4 cup distilled water. Stir. Wait 30 minutes. Test ph. If you don't have a ph meter, you can get ph test strips from the aquarium section of a petstore or brew your own beer/wine store.
If ph is below 5.8, you can apply some powdered/pulverized not pelletized dolomite lime to the soil surface. Try 1/2 tablespoon per square foot evenly sprinkled. Water in. If you have heavy clay, you may need double this rate.
If ph is ok, you can add cal mag by adding 1/4 teaspoon epsom salts and powdered gypsum per gallon of water along with the regular ferts. If you cant find gypsum like at a brew your own beer wine store, calcium nitrate can be used at the same rate. Also, calcium chloride sold under names like blossom end rot stopper for tomatoes can be used instead of gypsum. I cant give you a rate without the % calcium and net weight of the bottle.
I would be adding about 1/2 teaspoon shultz per gallon with every watering.
So what about mixing a couple tablespoons of epsom salt with my next few waterings? I've done that before with some results? No ph reader either so i can't do the ph test.
Snoop around your yard and surrounding areas. Look for naturally decaying materials (natural compost). If you have fires etc. you can eventually incorporate some wood ashes and sand. Nature is fantastic. Everything is always present if you look hard enough.
You can get super cheap pH strips at the fish store or those other stores you have in US...W-Mart etc. Or its safe to order online form aquarium specialty. They are not perfect but you will at least get closer to fig out.
Look forward to a photo update! Your plants really dont look all that bad in photo.
Thanks dirtybudz so anything that is brown and crusty, or in other means in the process of decomposing. I got plenty of old dead stuff in the back, the yard doesnt look bad at all, but it's there . I'm going to my local home brewery stores to check out the PH strips.
Based on the surroundings I can imagine most of your micro nutrients are off. If you can get some bat gauno as well as some bonemeal and "top dress" the surrounding soil with a few tablespoons, you will be very happy with the results.
Spraying Neem Oil I also highly recommend every 3-4 days to avoid a potential next problem. Pests! Success and Enjoy. Ed
Thanks H resin those are both real commonly found nutrients. I will pick them up as soon as I can. When is a good time to start flowering ferts? When my hours of sunlight drop down to 12 hrs, thats when I was thinking to switch over. Thanks for all the help thus far everyone.
