What do you think this is?

Without showing pics of the entire plant...what would you guys diagnose this as.

My pH seems right around where I want it hovering at 5.8 according to strips. It was a little higher today but I just changed res so it needs to level out.

I am using Iguana Juice Grow which is an 'organic hydro" nute. It smells and it makes my res very sludgy...with a film on the surface...could this be a problem?

Also...some water sits in the bottom of my E/F tray which makes it very humid in there...problem here? Do the roots need somewhere to go beyond the pots? Because as it is they just hang from the lid of the container used as a tray and there is about 4" of clearance between pot and bottom of tray.

I also noticed today that some of the leaves higher up are curled under. Any idea.

I know it seems like a lot but this has been on going for a while and I need to narrow it down bc I'm a newb to hydro and I don't want to have to give it up.

Any help would be much appreciated :D

Hey donatello; I posted in my thread but I also forgot to tell you that when you use organics in hydro, the organics is not picked up by a ppm meter correctly.

I think iguana juice is for soil growing too if I remember correctly........

Haha well we are going to end up talking in two separate threads here but whatever. I was told that iguana juice is okay for organic hydro according to ppl here and ppl at AN. But so far the evidence that I have managed to find hasn't been too promising. Do you suggest that if things don't recover within the next week I switch over to a new, 100% approved hydro nute? I may have to give up the organic aspect depending on the selection at my store but I am willing to if it will save my plant/

What about all the other things I listed....my setup isnt posing a problem is it?

that is exactly what I was going to tell you to do!

Because I have not seen anyone use iguana juice grow with hydro setup......

Ok so when you say the roots need to go somewhere else besides the pot.......... what do you meaN?

can you take a pic how the roots are sitting?

Aren't they sitting in the water? and the water hitting it when it bubbles?

hanks Stitch...you gotta do what you gotta do. So the ppms are at 420 right now...so byu weeks end I should aim for 470-520? Should I take into account the changes that occur when I add pH down? Or should I just add the iguana juice and ph Down as needed without adding more calmax until the next res change? And when I do the res change I start off at the same ppm as I left off?

no you should not take in account for when you add pH down.

Do you got an water pump in that tub?

See the reason why it says that is, because with organics it's nearly impossible to get the proper reading with a TDS pen which is why you are getting the readings you are getting.

I can get the thread and site that gives you more info about this if you are intrested,.......

does your bottle say it's for hydro use too?

Hey Stitch....still not much of a recovery. The big one is growing find but the fan leaves continue to die. The little one is doing nicely but there is still some evidence of the same things happening as did to its older sister...just less pronounced. The bottle and the manufacturer both say that iguana juice is 100% hydro organic approved but I am begining to think that is bs more and more because my res looks like shit and so do my plants that are being fed from the res. I know IJ has great results in soil but I think the manufacturer should reconsider their statements.

I will stick with it for a week or two more and buy new nutes for flowering. What do you recommend? Organic would be preferable but not absolutely necessary.

By the way...its ebb and flow...not bubbler so the roots just sit in the air when theres no water in the tray. Is it possible I'm not watering enough? My schedule is 8AM, 1PM, 8PM for 30 min total (roots sit in water for close to 20 mins).

Im so sick of looking at everyones beautiful DD and seeing mine the way it is!

You know what I would try to do, get some new nutes! Start from scratch, because I honestly think now it's the nutes that is causing all this problems, since I never seen anyone use the one you are using in hydro.....

When your roots sit in the water is there an air stone in there?

So you are hand watering your plants?

No airstone....water sits in res...gets pumped up into tray 3 times daily...and overflow splashes down into res. PS...picked up AN 3 part...I figure on my first try at hydro I will stick to nutes specifically designed for hydro and deal with organics when i have more experience. Should I add an airstone to the res now? I didn't before because I had heard that with organic hydro the added air just cultivates the bad bacteria faster.

I would, if they sit in there for 20 min with no air there had better be some air in there.

It seems to me there is 2 problems, one is the nutes you were using and another is the way you have your plants setup in this system,

I really never seen it set up like this but I see some problems that can happen so far.....

yours is kinda like an ebb and flow and an aeroponic system it seems......

normally they need flooded more than the amount you are using, lots more.

Depending on the system they can be flooded every few hours for a certain amount of time.........

not 20 min though that is way to long; but your setup is much different......

Why did you choose to setup your grow like this?

Hey stitch...been a long time since I have been on the forums but I am happy to say that my 2 ladies have never been better. The problem...just the fert. As soon as I dropped the so called 'hydro certified' organic nute (Iguana Juice) and switched to the hydro designed AN 3part the two girls completely turned around...all nute deficiencies disappeared and they took off. I have nothing against IJ because I have heard and seen good things in anything besides hydro but I think it is unfair for AN to label it for hydro use. Anyways, they are 3 weeks into flower and I will post some pics somewhere soon.

Cheers and thanks again for all your time, support, and help.
