What Do You Guys Think About Sun System's New LUXOR Hood?

I think that hood is going to have a hell of an impact on our end of things. Apparently our industry is finally starting to pick up on the way that industrial luminaires have been designed for the last 40-50 years.

Meh.. they are very tall and not going to fit well in an average tent.

And I just dont see the point of hanging the bulb vert if it will still be 100% reflected light and air cooled with a glass lens. You lose output thru a glass lens and you lose output with air cooling and relected light is not as powerful as direct light.

I thought the whole point of vert bulb was direct light from the bulb to the plant and no glass in the way.

I would almost think a regular horizontal reflector out be better because in that case 50% of the bulb is directly focused at the plants and 50% is reflected. Another thing I dont like is that the farther the light is reflected the weaker it gets and that thing looks like it reflects at a much greater distance. It also doesnt look like a very efficient design for air cooling either, with the ports at the top and the huge chasm the bulb sits in.

Just seems like a stupid gimmick. If you want vertical lighting hang bare bulb or get a long cool tube, these would be the best for direct lighting from bulb to plant.

i suspect these will throw light, like a P.L. system...

if you have ever had a PL light and tried to look into the reflector with the bulb on, you CAN NOT see the outline of the bulb, it looks like the reflector IS the bulb, ZERO DEAD SPOTS, make any sense?

with any other hood, if you look into the reflector with the bulb on, you SEE the outline of the bulb and the dead spots inside the reflector...

im interested and WILL be trying some, even though i have 40+ hoods, just sitting in a spare room...

If you've got that kind of cash why not get a gavita, they are the best there is.

Super high efficiency bulbs and no lens or air cooling to diminish output. They are the best professional indoor horticulture has to offer.

I dont use a hood im a bare bulb grower. I love it but I have 1 issue. If 1 of my bulbs explodes the fire hazard is very high. I do have a defender and hand held extinguishers. If I can prevent the fire from even starting I would consider one of these but not at that price....

No they are not reflectorized bulbs. they are a whole ballast and reflector system that runs the Phillips 400v high output double ended HPS lamps. They are what non weed growers choose, because when you are growing indoor tomato's there is no room for loss in inefficiency.
I think a wire cage or long cooltube would be better than that new reflector.
