i'd guess harvesting too early, or pollinating too late. they need the right amount of time to develop so not getting that sufficient time will cause them to be immature. mature seeds are light-dark brown in colour often with black stripes on them and are rigid/hard when squeezed.
thanks for the replies. i don't think it is that i haven't left them long enough, they just seem to be like 'still born'. like they have started to develope and then died?
I have a somewhat 'opposite' question...can seeds be "over-developed"? I just harvested about 200 Blue Moonshine beans--about 40 days old--and ~5 % of them have actually opened less than a millimeter along one seam. The embryo is fine--all germed OK.
I've seen this before with plants under lights but these were from a 100% outdoor grow...
possibly the bud got rained on or damp and the seeds started to swell and germinate. they can germinate inside the buds if they get wet at the wrong time. i dont think seeds can be over developed.
plants that go to make seeds should be well fed - it takes a lot of nutrition to make seeds.
Bad pollen? Immature seeds that haven't had a month or more to mature? The plant is dying and can't finish the seeds? Pics and more info would be helpful...
i think it has been around six weeks since it was pollinated, but i broke open a few calyx' and the seeds inside are tiny and hollow(i think they stopped growing a while ago and are dead). could it be dodgy pollen?
thanks again.
