What can cause stretch during veg.?

original BubbleFunk from Amsterdam.

Was using organics with no problems in stretching, now using chemicals and they stretch about 4-5" between nodes.

This is a friends grow without internet, so I'm just trying to help out.

He has aircooled 1000w lights. Doesn't matter if it's HPS or MH, they both do it. Light is about 24" away from top of plant. Any closer and he says that they burn.
Any other ideas, such as specific nute defincencies(sp)?

Ammonia/urea nitrogen or high phosphorus in your fertillizer. Also, warm temps.

How crowded are the plants? Overcrowding will make them stretch due to a lack of light getting to them.

If the plants are burning at 24" from the lights, then there's obviously some temp issues that need to be dealt with also...

i think container size is imprtant factor. Is it from clone or seed?

Some strains just stretch like hell, and if it has some SANTA in it then it will get real funky. resreach ur strain and try and look at some pics of it too...

over watering will make stretch, especially with chemicals...

mn i wish my plants would stretch..only a little tho...

currently my node spacing is about 1/4 -1/2 inch. pain in the ass when your trying to scrog. especially when they are reveged plants.
