What can be done about fuzzy grey mold on necrotic growth on in-rooting-process cuts?

Have several (65) cuttings of a sour diesel clone only variant in rockwool starter cubes.

The cuts are on day 5 or six of incubation, still pretty green some yellowing and wilting. On necrotic growth there has developed some fuzzy white mold on some of the decayed leaves, is this normal? Treatable? I can't drop the humidity until these things root which will take several more days. What can I do now? And what should I do when they root?

Thanks for the help.

It's all about the humidity and air quality. If you don't drop the RH, there's no way they'll make it long enough to root. As it is, you're probably looking at a 90-95% failure rate on any of them that started getting slimy - even with a fungicide, trimming off the affected area and a proper climate.

You might wanna try going to a bubble cloner...you won't need a dome unless you live in a desert.

So i'm gonna have to be deadly serious about this?

Quarantine the affected cubes, keep cutting away rotting leaves, douse with safers fungicide,

How will I drop RH and allow the cubes stay humid enough to root, would saran wrap over the rockwool allow me to take off the humidome?

Thanks for the help.

I suggest a one time spray of the fungicide daconil 2787. The ingredient is chlorothalonil. The fungus is most likely botrytis. This fungicide will control that and is broad spectrum against alot of others. It will not effectively control powdery mildew but I don't think this is your problem. You can find the fungicide at home depot, lowes, etc... Use the ornamental rate on the bottle. Once mixed, the fungicide really only stays good for 1 day before it begins to spoil.

If you want any of them to make it, yes. I root clones all the time in 50% RH...you just gotta make sure the cut tip is staying moist. If the clones are wilting, try trimming some leaves to reduce the surface area that's transpiring water. If you are misting the clones, STOP! The function of the high humidity is basically to prevent the clone from transpiring more water than it can suck up from the cut end.

Definitely wouldn't hurt to cover the cubes with something...the stuff you are having problems with is the EXACT reason I stopped using RW in a dome - too much hassle for something that should be super easy. Been using a bubble cloner for 2+ years and have never had a clone wilt in it and the success rates are always 90%+ in 2 weeks as long as the temps are right. If it's too cool, they may take another week...

How about the details of your cloning setup?

I just had the same problem ....

I simply cut away the infected/affected area
luckily mine had already rooted by the time I noticed the mold
so
out of the propogator and into the sun : )

Im having the same problem in my bubblecloner for the second straight run. the cut tips turn light brown and get slimy then my top growth kinda browns up in places then the clone wilts... ive ran tap water + SM90 and then ran RO, SM90 and a dab of olivias. i bought some daconil and sprayed them down and its still happening. I was wondering if it was safe to add some daconil to my res. my water in the cloner runs about 73 degrees and its been hot and dry where i live. any suggestions/cures?

i get this problem alot w/my cuttings to.
ill usualy change the tray (usualy has water, ill empty it) and leave the top off long enough for the plants to dry (any longer and they seam to wilt, or lay down, lol)
sometimes a good mist w/tap water will do, thats what chlorine is for.
