I thought it was supposed to be flying saucers come from Mars? I never suspected they went to Mars as well. :)

nice pic, guess this might be the cost effective mars trip
look at this way, if you have a flying saucer might as well use it
and mars seems like as good a destination as any

when I was a very young boy I had a vision

that like the evolution of man on the evolutionary scale our planted was evolving as well

and like a flower it would open and send forth pollen "life" and perpetuate the process

our ancestors foresaw this as well, the alien life that we communed with is our own humanity

Our technology as it stands could account for life on earth and aliens in this scenerio

mankind sent for rna/dna into far space so it would seed and evolve while they transported through the same universe knowing that life would be evolved by the time they got here to see it

maybe were 25-30 years out

this thinking is common if you know where to look

not fer nuthin' but that thing looks like it's as aerodynamic as a cinder block.......

aerodynamics don't matter as much when you can bend space-time and the rocket thruster could be something to placate suspicious civilians and/or just something to slow down descent.

A balloon carries it to 120kfeet.

Large disc surface is designed to increase drag on descent in mars atmosphere.

It will feature an extra inflatable toroidial (not sure how to spell that) balloon to increase surface area on descent.

The most cost-effective way to slow down larger loads as they approach Mars is to take advantage of the natural drag, or friction, in the atmosphere. The LDSD's large, flat, saucer-like surface will maximize this potential, generating a lot of drag to help slow it down as it falls to Mars.

interesting stuff, kind of a flying greenhouse
drop a piece of earth ecology on to mars
any human that would be willing to be on the 1st ride of this, well, you could be called brave, and a little crazy too

better take a BIG sack, that's gonna be a loooong ride...unless they have a propulsion system I aint heard of.
Lol i hear ya.i was talking about growing weed on mars.hell i dont think i could handle a j or medibals. In zero gravity.lol talk about vertigo.

Hell a kilo of hash should last the the whole trip.

I know, it looks like in the propulsion lab a couple of scientists got stoned and one of them said "Oh hey, I just got a great idea, let's take a jelly filled donut and stick a big thruster on one side and fire that sucker off to see what happens"

Seemed like the point is to create as much drag as possible while descending to Mars. That's why the extra inflatable donut. It's being launched fromthe upper atmosphere after a balloon floats it up..

Maybe we're trying to make sure that if anyone sees this, our technology looks sufficiently primitive to not be a threat.

Damn...
With the size if that craft they better build thousands...

That thing won't hold any more than one mating pair if humans.

Microwave & lazer propulsion systems may be more cost effective than conventional liquid or solid fuels once the tech is perfected and would eliminate the need for onboard fuel supplies, thereby making more room for the passengers months long trip.

I thought NASAs budget was severly cut... to the point that research was halted for some time.

Yes but the private sector took over on the production ,with rd assistance from nasa.
Dont forget thay nasa owns a shit load of patents.nasa budget was straight up artificial. They just wanted there information out of the publ8c domain. There for the privatization of the space program, was due to the need of the lack of transparency, rather than a budget.
Shit is serious over there. There are setting up shop on another planet. For what, idk
Maby there try8ng to have a call many people just in case there's a catastrophic event here on earth known or unknown. Also maby there building next gen super ships for deepspace travel. Maby there do8ng a breeding program. Who knows. I knowni want to know whats up

Actually the balloon was just for testing purposes. When/if it is ever used to go to Mars it will be launched on top of a more conventional rocket.

there not going to mars or the moon or anywhere else its all a hoax.i cant even get a phone signal in the lower 48 states yet most americans believe that nasa can control a spacecraft millions of miles away using the same technology.i very seriously doubt we can make it out side of earths orbit.picture chopping on a computer is easier than flying a machine to outer space and snapping a pic of the earth.

Seriously?
So, no belief in Science either?
