im wondering besides ethanol which solvents are the safest (consumption-wise, not flammability etc) for making extracts for edibles? (pretty sure we'll be going with ethanol but just curious!) thanks
Technically butter is a solvent when used to dissolve cannabinoids. But if you mean you are looking to make an extract prior to using it for your baking needs, then ethanol is probably your only option, if you're worried about having leftover solvent in the end product.
It doesn't matter, dissolve your concentrate in ethanol and heat it, hydrocarbons are far more volatile than ethanol and evaporate much easier, being in a pool of ethanol the hydrocarbons will quickly and easily boil out. I usually just dissolve it, do a decent winterization and then boil off the ethanol, once the ethanol is mostly boiled off (I'd do this in a double boiler to help decarb) you should have a thin solution of relatively tasteless, decarbed concentrate you can mix in with your fat of choice.
