Wetting agent?

My soil mix dries up pretty quick and sometimes my babies get dried out a bit when i'm busy and dont have time to check on them.

I've heard alot about dishwasing liquid as a wetting agent. I'd like to know how much to use without hurting my plants. Any advice welcomed.

Hey Agent - I used dishwashing liquid when I first soaked my jiffy pellets for seeds as well as when I did my two transplants. The dishwashing liquid helps new or dry soil to retain the water better. As for amount, it only takes two or three DROPS of liquid per gallon of water. Even with this small amount, you will probably get a bit of foaming out of your water or nute mixture when you stir it in. Don't be alarmed by that. It's okay.

I don't really know if this is going to keep the soil more moist for longer periods of time but it does help to keep the water from just running straight through the soil and allows dry soil to absorb the water better. I hope this helps!

You may have either pots that are too small or are watering too infrequently, add polymer to get more "time" between(25%). The detergent acts as a surficant which will allow quicker penetration (this is good for neem oil and other foliar sprays too!)but won't add to time in between waterings!

*waves HIGH!* agree with what Relik and badmf told you. If you wish to extend time between waterings add 25% coco to your soil mix... stuff is fantastic for many reasons... in fact you may refer to me as a "coconut"... ha ha ha *waves bye* Akiko

I'll probably end up trying all of your ideas out. Right now all i got is dishwashing liquid.
Where could i get some coco or polymer?

Coco is availible at most hydro shops and polymer is on Ebay at much lower prices than garden centers!
