Well Water to Grow

Obviously Im on a well and would like to know the best way to use it to grow, or is it better to use an RO system. Im growing in Coco and use RO with a tad bit of well water to help get the PH where I want it with a bit of PH down to hit my #. I guess Im wondering if there is anyone using well water and is it easier to do, as I don't Know how to formulate my own receipe. Thank's UC

So your running in Coco @6.8 how do you figure out how and what nute's to add ? Im sure the 130ppm isnt enough, mine is @6.8 to 7 and 200 to 250ppm I been meaning to just do an experiment with a plant and see what it will do but any help would be appreciated. Do I need to get a test done to use the well water with good result's?

1st step is to get your water tested and get and idea what is in there. University extensions, pool supply stores, and even big box hardware stores do this sometimes for cheap.

I'm a recycled organic soil guy, but i have about 300ppm calcium carbonate and a ph of 8. I use citric acid to drop it to 6.5 before watering.

OK , thanks I will look into getting my water tested. I have been thinking on going organic. I have one hell of a compost pile of Oak leaves and such I could use. My mother would get mad because she would take her sick outdoor plants and chuck them in the wood's only to find out the next time she went to dump another plant the first one was back there thriving, there are lot's of good stuff back there from clays to the blackist of black dirts to dead tree matter. I had started to read upon the citric acid but then side tracked.:) Sounds like your from a round the same area. My water is not as calcified as a neihbor who lives a hundred feet away. Thank's UC

beware of well water thats been through a water softner system that uses salt. I had lots of problems with my "softened" well water when i tried it years ago. Burned my girls when i was mixing ferts with it.
Its likely that the outside spigots are straight well water and not being softened.

I am only using the Well water before the softener. Im getting ready to tap into the spigot that the line passes through my room . it will make it so much easier to fill my jugs and Resevoir if I decide to go that route.

I used well water years ago when i lived in the mountains. It worked just fine with hydro using GH 3 part.

Im running GH 6/9 too. It would be nice to not have to worry about changing out RO filters and such. Ultimately saving on the overall price to grow.

Still running GH Flora @6/9

Well I havnt got a round to testing my well water but can get a report from my town if it would help. I since have bought some GH hard water micro to test with my 250ppm well water and it is lacking and thought it would in Mg plants lightened up and are showing deficiencys. So I watered once to see it was off then added in 2ml of cal mag and hellped a bit. How long or how many feeds should I do before I up the dose again. I have been doing a foliar of epsom till I get the ratio's right to help the plants a long. I was too thinking I might just go to epsom salt instead of the calmg. But I might wait since I have a bit of nutes to use up and would like to get the plants back in order before changing to Epsom salt.
