We Need an Electrical Tutorial

I've been browsing and something that I think would be useful is: A detailed w/ pictures tutorial from someone that is skilled with the electrical wiring required for grow rooms. This tutorial would ideally show how to wire high amp circuits in both 240 and 120 in to your house, in the safest and stealthiest way possible.

If anyone could provide either this or a link on how to do so, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Rob

The thing is, Rob, every situation is different. There are plenty of books about basic wiring available at places like the Home dePot or Lowe's. Anyone attempting electrical work should, at the very least, study one of these books before starting any work. Quite frankly, I discourage people who don't know anything about electrical work to not do it.

But, back to your original question. Probably the best way to power a grow room is to put a sub-panel nearby. The last sub-panel I installed required a run of about 1 1/2 feet. (Really! The main panel was on the other side of the wall from the sub.) A few years agp I put in a sub-panel that required 200' of underground wire. As you can imagine, the wire specs for those two projects differed immensely. And that's just one variable factor; there are many others. Putting together a comprehensive wiring manual would be a huge task and it's unnecessary because such manuals are already available. (If I knew a link for an on-line manual, I'd post it for you - but I don't.)

On the bright side, there are several people on this forum who really know their shit when it comes to electrical matters. If you start a project and run into any problems, you can get some real solid answers here, in regards to specific questions/situations.

Specific Situation: 200 Amp service to the house with less than 100 Amps currently used.

Want to run 80A of 240v and 20A of 120v to a room 1 floor above and 1 20' room away so apprx 40' away. If possible i'd like to have no sign of any changes without either opening the main panel in the garage or looking in the room it runs to (ie. no additional sub panel in the garage)

Once its in the room I'll be running both power sources (120v and 240v) in to a box that will act as both a flip flop and a power bar of sorts (basically break the mass amount of power into many smaller regular 120v and 240v plugs)

Any other info needed?

80 amps of 240. How many lights you running??You only need one sub panel you can get 240v and 120 v from same panel. The biggest breaker for your main is probadly a 60 amp.Which would power alot.Do you want a sub in each room or both from the same sub. You dont need a sub at the main. can you run the wire in the attic then in side the wall to the main panel.

I know for sure I need 80 amps of 240 and 20 of 120, a good # of lights and a lot of the other equipment will all be run on 240.

The grow will all be in 1 room and I'd like to only have a subpanel in that room.

As far as running the wire, I'm gonna run it exactly like you said.

If you have 4 spots in your main I would run 2 lines to two subpanels and go from there. With that much power. your gonna need two lines.
