Ways people get caught, things to avoid.

I thought I'd make a thread where we could post all the ways we know people have been caught, aka, what NOT to do. I'm sure this thread will overlap others, but security can't be stressed enough. I'm not an expert or guru on the topic, I'll post the ones I know, and everyone please add to it.

1. Don't tell anyone. I'd imagine this is the number 1 way people get caught? Even when I hear stories in person about people getting caught its always, "my pissed off ex called the cops on me". I guess this might be unavoidable to some people, but if you're the only one that knows, I'd imagine your risk goes down to almost zero.

2. No smell. This is another major way I've heard of people being busted. I've heard personal stories of smelly streets leading to busts. Don't skimp on odor control.

3. No sell. The other major way I hear of people getting busted. It also overlaps with no tell.

Now that the 3 major ones are out of the way, I'll post other things I've heard people do that actually lead to a bust.

- Being followed from hydro shop. Cops do knock and talk, gather information, clues. Eventually can lead to bust.

- Exterior clues at the grow location. Carrying lots of dirt indoors, nutrients, etc. Light coming from windows.

honestly another thing that is elementary but ppl still get comfortable and break this rule....smoking when you're driving with weight...WHY PEOPLE? my boy who did his thing for years was driving back with a few elbows, smoking a blunt of the new weed (way better than last batch so of course it couldn't wait..) and he passed an 18-wheeler. The douche driving the truck saw him, got on his radio and called him in...

4. Baby mama drama is by far the fastest way to get caught here with a commercial grow. If you want to get busted, piss off your gf/bf/wife/mistress and watch her/him call the cops on you.

Tip - change clothes after working in the grow before going out. Also wash up.
If you brush up against your plants while tending around you WILL stink like weed...and it'll be a pretty obvious smell of fresh growing plants vs. you just having smoked.

Run a clean organized grow room...keep all grow stuff in the grow area. Its never good to have grow equipment , stuff scattered around many areas (house, car, ect). Keep all of your "stuff" organized and together.

I've been into growers homes to see grow magazines, nute bottles, ect scattered around their personal living space. Its slippin..regardless of how "cool" your circle is. A circle is slippin to begin with..you dont need your questionables all over the place.

this thread may be a little repetitive, but i still like it, some things need to be repeated
which brings me to the one cause i've noticed locally - fire safety - fire in the grow room is one of the easiest ways to get you, and i've seen it more than once

yea dont argue with ppl around the grow(as has been said)...cops get called ect....is hard but once its done the thought enters yours mind "i knew that was a rule but my temper got the best of me".HH. =]-~

Shit, I had a roommate trippin on shrooms one Tuesday night, screamin her fool head off. I told my wife to shut her up NOW or I was gonna get my stun gun and knock her on her ass. She didn't remember a thing about it the next day, freak!

igrowone has it right on fire safety. All those plug ins, and power running.
If you have a fire and cant put it out, you're busted. check circuit loads, consider a dedicated fuse or switch for your grow op. Most of all, have fire alarms and fire extinguishers that are working properly on every floor, not just the grow room. It may be a kitchen fire that brings the fire dept. rather than the grow gear so have those extinguishers on hand.

plant and grow refuse disposal is a big one too. No you shouldnt throw grow oriented trash in your own garbage but weigh your risks too. Don't get in the car with your well bagged waste without a dumpsite predetermined and choose the spot well. If you are pulled over by the popo with the grow refuse, they may take it further from there, like to your house/apt.
dumping in public places is a no no. ever since 911, folks are alot more suspicious about people dumping large things in garbage cans, some "patriot" may call the pigs and take down your plate #.

I do agree that there should be one stickied thread on security here.
maybe someone will make it happen or sort all pertinent points and make a new bulleted thread to be stickied.
