Water Softener

High All,

Does any one use water from a water softener for their grow? I read a post that said it was ok if you use potassium pellets instead of sodium pellets. I also know that you can buy softener salt that is from natural solar ponds instead of from synthesized chemicals.

Anybody use a water softener? Is their a general consensus regarding water softeners? Good idea? Bad idea? Potential for toxic salt buildup?

Thanks

my general consensus is bad for the plants salt build ups will for sure accure now you should have an outside water spicket for your garden hose it shouldnt have soft water running through it.

Well, if you don't reuse your soil i think you could use soft water just fine, even using MG products. My wife uses it on all her indoor plants and not all are dead. However, I fill gallons at the outside spigot and don't use softwater on my plants.

soft water great for washing cars spot free rinse.......great for showers and dishes ...!

BAD .........for Plants of any kind !..........

normally homes are fitted so cold water kitchens are the only ones with hard water ...

for drinking, cooking exctra . thats what you should be watering with...!......unless you got a reverse osmosis system ? that would be better yet.

but you got to let the kitchen cold run long enough to empty your pipes of soft water .

So true, when I go over moms I always water the tomatoes with tapwater not sodium softened water, its death for foliage

Thanks for the input every one. I've got a dallas fern that has been getting the sodium softened water. Dead foliage is the best way to describe the fern at this stage, lol :). How about Potassium softened water? Anyone?

I've never heard of that but too much potassium can cause lockout of other nutes and minerals,I guess it would be in the amount and possibly type of K.
