Water Saucers or Trays in grow tents?

T

The_Core

Just looking to see how everyone deals with runoff water in grow tents. Does everyone use saucers? Do you slightly elevate one side of your tent to let the water collect and then use a towel and get it out of your tent. Or maybe you have one big tray you use? Looking for ideas because using a saucer cuts down on the useable space inside the grow tent. Thanks!

Dumping that water outa buch of saucers is gona get old super quick... And chance for spills goes way up.. But the shop vac is a good idea, the trays are gona be a hell of alot more expensive but easier in the long run.. To get rid of and to test ur run off.. those lil saucers dont hold very much either..if ur gona go that route hit the dollar store and find something like mine they hold like a gallon of runn off..and they are real thick.. Its not to big of a deal since i water my plants a diffrent times since they are perpetual... So only 2 get water at a time...

Thanks LeafLady. Good idea with the shop vac. My issue is that I use square shaped grow bags and I have found square shaped saucers, but they don't fit just right, And a couple inches excess on each saucer and before you know it you have lost a foot of grow space. I thought about just letting them drain straight into the grow tent.

Plastic bags they use at the checkouts everywhere fit perfect on a standard 3 gal container. Slip them on the container condom style and then when the plants are drained enough pull them off. Snip the corner over the sink and down the drain the runoff goes.

This method also comes in handy to prevent dirt from making a mess coming out of the holes when you are putting fresh soil in the containers.

i bought the 54" x 54" flood table that fit my tent and put a 2x4 under the back edge so the runoff collected at the front edge / door of the tent and suck it up with a 20.00 homedepot buckethead shop vac .

Is it possible to put something very very minimal under the grow tent to give it just a tiny bit of tilt so all the water collects on one side and then try to suck it out with a shop vac?

Thats a great idea! So I could buy that flood table and it would fit almost perfect in a 5x5 grow tent. Tilt the back side so the water moved forward and suck it out.

hmnn...how long ya gonna have that tent? ya don't wanna drain into the bottom of the tent.
go to bigbox store and purchase plastic bins for storing christmas wrap...they be about 4" deep, enough for the messiest watering...and they're rectangular so your square bags will fit better. a couple of buck$ and you're set.

Trays rock! I use a 3x3 in veg and a 2x4 for my clones and moms next to it. Way easier than dealing with individual saucers or popsicle trays of cups.

Couple details - don't elevate the tent, elevate one side of the tray by putting something under the legs or whatever you have it on, or buy a tray that drains to the middle by design, then it can sit level and you stick something underneath to catch the runoff.

My 3x3 tray is like that, and because I am kinda ghetto when stuff is out of sight, I have it on cinder blocks instead of a proper stand. A rubbermaid fits in the middle to collect the run off. Easy peasy :D

You do not want any water to get on the tents drip liner...Over time it will ruin that liner and then start to rust out the frame.. I would use a tray if I cant afford a tray I would use saucers with a shop vac.. I use Saucers with a shop vac in my room..You dont want that water sitting in there anyway so suck it off lol..

Good idea. Wont drain directly into tent floor. Thanks for the idea on the plastic bin. Big Box Store, based in Europe or the states?

I mainly run cuts but have recently started popping beans as well.. That said i dont like to waste more soil than needed on a male so i use 2gal smarties while the saucers i described above and where the plastics meets i prop a smaller plasttic pot in between the big flowers and sex them like that . Take a few cuts and let it grow grow out.. ill see if i have any pix if not ill take few tonite to better describe it so its not wasting any realestate in the shed

Sounds like a nice setup. I would probably make a DIY stand like you did, no point in buying an expensive stand really. Your tray drains to the center and below a rubbermaid container collects all the run off and you just dump that. I like that idea as well.

I didn't even consider the frame rusting out. Thanks Hammerhead. Now I am definitely not going to let water drain onto the tent floor.

used 9 litre plastic buckets',40 of, all sitting in square plastic containers abit less than half way up bucket, which holds runoff, until i get to them, ijust tried 3 gall smart pot, dont' fit, but they have bigger square ones, they have slotted handle holes each side, cost more than bloody bucket, worth it ,fukk saucers,.plus the squares help fit in to area better. plus can just grab hold of bucket, or slide around, and remove the lot at once.

Get a flood table or a kiddie pool and a shop vac. You will thank me after your grow when you pull up the floor and see all the water that didnt evaporate from all those spills that made it between your liner and your floor.

Definitely going to buy a flood table. I cant find any that are over 4 feet but less than 5. I have a 5x5 grow tent, would I be wasting space if I used a 4x4 flood table? Seems like I would be.

Any ideas anyone? How much usable grow space will I lose putting a 4x4 flood table in a 5x5 grow tent. Seems like I will be losing a bit of grow space?
