dH stands for degrees of hardness, and a simple little chart will help to explain its relationship with our favourite measure, the ppm
0 to 4 dH 0 to 70 ppm very soft
4 to 8 dH 70 to 125 ppm soft
8 to 12 dH 125 to 200 ppm medium hard
12 to 18 dH 200 to 300 ppm hard
18 to 30 dH 300 to 500 ppm very hard
over 30 dH over 500 ppm extremely hard
FYI: My tap water ranges anywhere from 775-815ppm, so is clearly over the 30dH mark. Reverse osmosis water is a MUST for me as you can imagine.
hehe, thanks guys. So my 11 water is pretty good. I was thinking about making an efford getting rain water or ro water, but i guess this should be pretty ok?
11 is borderline IMO for use on plants...it probably has lots of calcium and other metals in it that'll tend to make the PH drift up and possibly accumulate in your medium. If you can do rain water, by all means go with it...it'll usually have a PPM under 20 and is relatively neutral in PH - plus it's free
Sweet delicious water that must be ItsGrowTime.
Not only do I hate my water for plant purposes, but it clogs every drain and shower head, and leaves a nasty residue on EVERYTHING.
Someday I'll be in another city
Perhaps the shittiest part is that I don't have a car so I have to lug a 20 litre jug of RO water for a 20 minute walk. It's a pretty good workout...plus I have to bring the dog. You can't go for a walk w/o the dog.
Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? lol
