System: ????

Water the plant with about 10-20% of the total pot volume

Lift the wet damp pot

Note how heavy the pot is

Return after 5-7 days

Elevate pot

Remembering from the previous weight

Decide to water Yes/No!

ps: Allow the water to rest overnite first

1: To get the water to room temp to avoid shocking the roots

2: Allow any chems in the water to evaporate off

You could also consider watering from the buttom. Have your pots standing in a tray in the grow room. Then pure the water in the tray. My current grow is being watered like that. It's the first time i do it, and i have to say i'm impressed compared to "normal" watering :)
Note how far up in the soil the roots are :)

I beg to differ, its vital that roots get to toke on some water, then rest.. then sip some air.. then return to the water, all the time ouzzing out this root sweat, excerbate is the nearest in English I can say, allowing your roots to soak for periods in water not only encourages root rot, but deprives the root, of very needed air.
and nutes, actually diluting the roots excerbate(sweat)

Look close at your root bound pic, note also how well pinched your major root laterals are at the corners, this is to be prevented at all costs ...simply use a ROUND pot to encourage root swirling,
root swirling confuses the plant, but can adapt, but as for root pinching, its like haveing a life in shoes to small for the owner ..

I believe the opinions are a bit different on that matter.
I have chosen squar pots, to make better use of my limited space. If you have the right medium with enough capillary effect. Leca or similar at the buttom to prevent roots sitting in water. Watering the way i do, there is never too much water in the soil. Call it patience. The watering takes atleast half a day. This is the best use of the limited soil ive seen so far (2 liter pots). They are young and only 1 week in to flowering. And the plants are looking top nodge :)

all sound advice. the 10-20% is pretty accurate based on what I did last night.

I like gravity resevoirs.bulkhead fitting ect.let it do the work..just make a wand with valve.make as big as needed...yeehaw..them heavy duty tubs from home depot with yellow lid work nice but Rubbermaid also works for smaller ones..

This is the method I have been using and has worked well for me also it also enables me to be gone for days at a time and I don't have to worry about things getting too thirsty while I am away. The key is to have a wick mechanism that draws the fluids up into the pot so the roots get both oxygen h2o and I have had no root rot . I also get roots through entire pot like in zemis pic.
