Water cooler/res refiller idea,... need help with this one!

Ya know I love this forum but the search options suck for finding the thread where you know someone did the same thing you're looking to do. I either get too many results or too few. So if you can point me in the direction of the thread where this has been done id appreciate it but if not it would be cool to be the first to do it too

Ok so I just bought a used water cool for $30! (craigslist rocks) It seems to keep the water pretty cool too. I was thinking of taking it apart and submerging the cooler part into my 35 gal res to keep the water cooler, (I'm running at about 77F right now) but since it came with a 5 gal water bottle on top I thought why not have it cool the water and refill the res as needed at the same time so I could go away for a few days and not have it be a problem.

Any ideas on how I should best go about this? I'm thinking maybe just keep it standing as it (meaning not really take it apart) and just pump water fro mthe res to the cooler and back, but how would I have it refill as needed.

Not sure of the thread you're referring to, but I know what you mean with the threads that come back with 100 pages..

Try this, works for me... You can limit your searches to threads that contain a max or min number of messages. I usually search, and limit it to results with less than 50 posts. Otherwise, when you click on a thread, you have a 'Search this thread' box up top that allows you search that specific thread and get the actual posts you're looking for.

I know, not as helpful as the water cooler thread you're looking for, but maybe it'll help you find it (and other things you're looking for too)

Another search idea is go into advanced search and set it to search for titles only.

I think it would work pumping water back and forth but you will prolly have to have a timer on the pump so the water in the cooler can chill down. How long is up to you to find out.

Thanks man,.. i knew someone else would have done this. At the moment i have it chilling about 100 foot of 1/8th inch tubing coiled up in the water coolers chiller pot, and I'm pumping res water through the tubing and back to the res. i measured the water temp flowing back into the res and its like 67-68F, which has gotta be helping matters but so far my res is still running at 74F. Not too bad,.. and also I didn't start this till mid day today which is the hottest period so I'm gonna let it go till tomorrow and see what it keeps it down to,.. also what it gets down to tonight when the grow lights go off and so on. Below is a pic of how i got it so far. I'm sure I could get lower temps if i busted the whole thing down and put it in the res,.. and i might do that after further testing tomorrow but we'll see.
