Watch an NYPD Detective pocket $2,650 during a loose cigarette sting

At least this NYPD detective didn't kill someone for selling loose cigarettes. Instead, he allegedly stole $2,650, perhaps as a way of rewarding himself for a job well done.

Ian Cyrus, a 12-year veteran of the department, was helping his fellow officers conduct the raid after a store employee allegedly sold loose cigarettes to an undercover officer. They took $593 from the cash register as well as packs of cigarettes as evidence, WABC-TV reported.

But deli owner Ali Abdullah noticed something else was missing — about $2,650 in rent funds hidden in a box under the store's counter. After looking at the security footage, the money appeared to have disappeared into Cyrus's pocket. The moment comes around the 1:20 mark in the video [above].

Ian Cyrus, the detective seen in the video stuffing the wad of cash in his pocket, has been suspended, but not arrested.

yeah, pigs really bite. first time I saw a Bronx bodega selling loose cigs was about '83, tbh I was shocked but it made sense for maxing out profit on a pack.

back in the day as you'd approach Madison Sq Garden on any night there was a concert there'd be the call going out on the street... 'loose joints!!! check it out!!! loose joints!!!' :) just like the vendors at a ballpark hustling beers.......

There could be some money in it for the IRS.

FBI could go to his home and check out his toys.

I love auctions.

Go Auctions! :woohoo:

As Tony Soprano would say "Hey that's what I do that's who I am" but when legalized they want a cut for lost business. I feel safer now.

What the fuck is it about NYPD and loose cigarettes?
Isn't there any real crime in that shithole?

FACT: THE TAXES HAVE BEEN PAID ON THAT PACK OF CIGARETTES ALREADY. If the store owner takes delivery of 100 cartons then he will pay taxes on 100 cartons. If Fat Joey the Plonk buys a pack, he pays the taxes on them whether he smokes em himself or sells em for a buck each.
Fat Joey is now an unlicensed vendor...WHOOOO CRIME WAVE. Right up there with Soccer Mom and her friggin yard sale.
He's doing the neighborhood a service by keeping the bums from hitting on passers-by for cigarettes. Fat Joe makes a whopping 12 bucks for standing around for how long a pack? 2 -3 hours?
This major crime has so far caused a murder and now felony larceny by cops.

Who's really the criminals here?
C'mon NY. No wonder people would pay Putin to drop the big one on NYC.
