D.C. City council voted yesterday, Tuesday March 4, to give out a citation with a $25 fine and no jail time for possession of and ounce of marijuana. It remains a crime to smoke in public with a possible fine up to $500 and 60 days in jail.
Marijuana possession on Federal properties in DC, that amount to over a fifth of the area within city limits, is still a crime punishable by a $1000 fine and jail time.
The Mayor has to sign it, and Congress has 30 "working days" to
approve it before it become law.
