Warehouse grow questions

Hello all, former lurker here with a first post.

Well it looks like my state is going to pass a medical marijuana law....Ohio. The proposal will have a 5k sq ft canopy (flowering) license for a reasonable fee, and I have an industrail property with big time electric available to me. I am sure I will have more questions, but my first one is using the property's height, which is 25 feet on average (arch shape roof).

I always thought you want to get the lights as close to the plants as possible, but I have seem some pics of commercial size grows with lights waaaay up there. Does that actually work? Assume lights are not led for now.

How else can I use my buildings height to my advantage ? Could airflow be used with the height to avoid pushing air through light ducts?

Any other good ways to use the height to my advantage?

One side question- does anybody lease led lights? I mean, I would need at least 200 of those to cover 5k sq ft properly no?

Thanks in advance for helping out with knowledge. Who knows, maybe I will meet my MG for this building on here.

I look forward to learning.

3rd post and already want to run a warehouse full of cannabis.

I'm being silly don't be offended.

You will have to lower you lights down to the plants. I think you should take
a look at some commercial greenhouses. Some of them are very big too and
I bet you get ideas from looking at them

What's the current status of Ohio mmj ?

Don't think any company will lease lights, you're gonna need some major capital - backers if you wanna properly setup a space that big.

Ide look into doing a greenhouse in the summer and use those profits towards indoor gear.

Well I guess I have two threads going, sorry. So ya this is a huge project I know. I have the build out at about 400k plus another 200 for 13 months operating costs. That si a little high but better safe than sorry.

By no means do I think I could run that flower room at all. We will definitely be bringing in a MG to run it. I have built out sonething about 1/5 th this size before so I have an idea what I am doing, it is just this new led lighting has me thinking hard and I have seen commercial indoor grows with lights waaaay up there and the cannopy below looks healthy enough.

The status in ohio is that mpp is in town with just a brilliantly written amendment that will pass in nov. Meanwhile, the state is trying to pass one of those really restrictive laws before that happens in hopes that it can defeat the mpp amendment. The mpp amendment will prevail and is polling in the upper 70s !!!!!

Already talked to zoning, le, and mayors office and this property is a go all day long. State rep for the area a big tine supporter of the new law. I can't wait.

Great place for a MG to move to.

I know a guy who invests about 100k in the build out. Hvac, drying room, co2 burners, rdwc system and electrical work. He runs his lights up a bit too high for me but says that the strain is a bit over sensitive to the lamps being too close.

He does it all legal like in Michigan. Just to give you an idea of what others spend. I think he could do more with less but it's all good. He makes a living.

LEDs are still far away from being competitive with HD (HPS and MH) lights despite what some people will tell you.

By the time they are competitive your HPS/MH will have paid for themselves many times over

Photos you have seen of big warehouse grows with lights strapped to the roof are just the result of laziness and poor design, once the light is over a meter away from the plants you loose a lot of yield, you are right, they need to be as close to the plants as possible, without burning/cooking them, see the "Cervantes hand test" for real low fi but effective guide
