Walk-in Closet vs Tent

I currently am using a 4x2x5 tent but I need to step things up to take advantage of the room. I have the option to use the room itself which is about 5x5 with an 8' ceiling, or stuff a 4x4x7 tent in that space.

I would like to upgrade to a 1000w if possible (air cooled hood of course) from the ceiling over a 4x4 tray. Would it be too much for a 5x5x8 space? I don't have a/c but could pull air from the outside.

The other option would be a 600 in the 4x4 tent. I know this isn't a problem as I run the 600 in my little 2x4. I believe a 1000 in a 4x4 tent with limited height would be pushing it but what do you guys think?

Ya only thing is the ability to get behind everything... but I say go for broke 4x4 tray in ur 5x5x8 space ...seal it up tight and put that 1k in

I run 1000w in a similar sized room- vent hood, dual 5" soler & palau mixed flow fans, Phat filters, Adorama darkroom vent. Get the 12x24. One fan pushes air thru the hood, the other vents the enclosure. The one for the reflector is slaved to the light timer, the other runs continuously. It's do-able, if you can get the lung room, the area where the fans vent to and from, to hold a suitable temp & the whole thing light-tight.

Results are excellent, although I'm sure a 600w would be easier to manage temp wise. Obviously, some mods to the dwelling are necessary.

I will be venting the hood into the attic. Would I need an intake fan inside of the light proof vent as well to pull in fresh air, or will the suction of the 6" vortex exhaust fan pull in enough outside air to cool the 1000 as well as the room?

In order to vent air into the attic, you have to let that much air into the house, or have a way to then recirculate attic air into another part of the house. It's also important, I think, to maintain some airflow during the dark period.

My experience is limited, but I suspect that a 6" fan might be adequate with that relatively low restriction light trap intake, provided that other necessary conditions are met. Every situation is different. Your better solutions might be different than anything I could offer from here.

Man, I'd go with walk in closet....I tried the 'tent' thing....MUCH prefer closet set up. Have reflective foam on all walls, use it for special breeding projects....or getting plants ready for outdoor transplant. To me, it's just easier. Guess you could call me a 'closet grower' did that for YEARS....lest I say....decades?!!

I dedicated one bedroom closet to only that (other than futon and book shelves). Had oscillating fan...lights (at that time HID/MH/HPS), timer, the whole enchilada. And it was away from any light leaks to the outside world.

The Tent....too hard to manage, too flimsy....but for a lot of folks....they work.

I love closet gardening.Alot can be accomplished in a good sized closet.Im finally graduating from my closet to a 12x12 room.No more weaving in and out of plants in a tight space for me!!

Yeah, tokersmoke- I always felt claustrophobic in tight (tent) space and broke several precious stalks not having enough room to breathe, let alone maneuver around.

Given adequate air circulation, heat dissipation, closets are excellent grow areas!!!
