Vortex Powerfan 4"

How loud is this thing?
Also, would it even be effective for a cool tube if I'm pulling air from about 4 feet of air ducting?

I'll be using a 150 watt HPS.

I also have a Vortex 4". The fan is very quiet. The sound of the moving air makes some noise though. Ducting quiets that down quite a bit though.

I just mounted mine directly to my cabinet using the supplied brackets. Never tried a bungie but all is quiet so Im ok with it as is.

I have the same fan....I'm going to be using it with a 250 and it should be a boost compared to computer fans....not much CFM for the money...

I love them!! I have a 4" for my lights, and a 6" for my carbon scrubber. They move some serious air for how little noise they make.

for like 20 bucks more you can get the 6 inch. Run it on a proper dimmer switch and dial back a bit and it will run quieter than a 4 and you will have room for upgrades to your room if needed

I checked my local hydro guy and it is indeed only 27 dollars more. I think its definetly worth it, but its just my opinion. I at least know that i am always wanting more later, so to have the extra cfm on hand when needed down the line is an added benefit. If i am not mistaken the proper speed control unit is around 30 bucks so your 185 for fan and speed control is right around my local price as well.

Are you planning on growing in a cab? If so go with a bigger cfm rating, for afew reasons.

First, if you ever want to upgrage to a bigger cabinet or grow in a room, then you have proper ventilation already.

Second, for the sake of sounding like a fat american - bigger is better...when it comes to ventilation. Spend a little extra on a bigger fana dn then try and dampen the sound as much as possible.

I have a small, rock-water fountain (you know the cheap kinds you see in Dentist's offices all the time) in my grow room with my cab and the water noise really helps cover up the sound of the sir moving. Ducting dampeners work well too, but they tend to be too large for cabinets unless they are mounted outside of the cabinet.

Here, take a look.

This is a 6" 449cfm fan. I bought this because it keeps my cab temps withing 2 degrees F of the outside temps...which I keep airconditioned this time of year to a nice 73F - do the math.
