[Volcano] Attaching the bag. Help wanted.

So I have been using a Volcano for about a year now. I love it by the way. Absolutely. I still use pipe/bong/bubbler/joint/whatever from time to time, but mostly I prefer to skip the coughing and go straight for a tasty high. For that I want the 'cano.

But...

It is a crapload of hassle to put the bag onto the valve assembly. It needs to be evenly distributed or the bag will look like a deformed grub. It just has to be done right, but it is such a pain.

Has anybody ever heard of a technique for easily attaching the standard bag material they suggest? Fairly evenly, quickly, and without lots of opportunity to fumble?

I know there has to be a way, I just haven't thought of a feasible one yet.

Thanks. The site does indeed explain how to attach the balloon material to the valve assembly. My point is that the balloon material is about 8 inches in diameter, and the valve assembly is only 1.5 inches in diameter. That means the balloon has to be gathered. But if it isn't even, the balloon will stick out at a funny angle, and then the whole mess will fall over as it fills. If it is straight, the balloon will stand up straight and not need to be babysat.

I guess I was just hoping some clever soul had discovered or invented a way to evenly gather the balloon and attach. For someone who does not have great dexterity, it can be a real challenge and source of frustration.

Theres no clever/easy way to get it on that doesn't require more work than just doing it according to the instructions. To get the bag on straight thought you may have to work it around the bowl part for little while (pushing and pulling, twisting and cursing...) until you're satisfied. This really shouldn't be that much of a pain... good luck.

With all due respect I disagree on both points. It is a major pain, 'cause I have to sit here and fiddle with it for a while. And I really suck at it too. I'm totally not dexterous enough. I've done it about a dozen times (1 1/2 years, daily use, replace bag every 45 days or so whenever it needs cleaning) and it is no easier or less awkward than the first time. :( I just suck at it. Takes me like 20 minutes of fiddling to get it on straight. :badday:

Second, not only do I think there must be an easy way, I have an idea for a gadget that might make it easy. :) I'll try to work up a diagram and get back here with it tomorrow (but don't hold your breath).

ok go here http://cotronics.com/vo/cotr/newprod.htm

get the glue that's first listed, then pleat the bag down to a suitable diameter using the glue to secure the flaps, that should allow you to attach the bag with less effort, that glue will last pretty much forever and is not sensetive to heat or chemicals, thus the bag can be cleaned easily.

I would pleat the bag almost to a point and trim it up slightly.

Just stare at the bag for a bit and think about how to shrink the diameter in a consistant and even manner, my best guess would be pleating.

Hay LazyDaze I went to the UK Hemp expo and the storz bicke volcano people had a stand there I had I similar problem to you I had trouble tying the plastic bag to the valve so I had a chat with them their really friendly and I got a balloon clip which costs about 2 euros that made things a lot easier for me.

There are 3 volcano’s as far as I know the newest one is digital the other older two are the dial type with numbers around it of those two one has a white ring you place your filling chamber on and one has a black ring the oldest one has the white ring the one I have.

While I was there they were displaying an easy valve thing I didn’t look into it very much as I was happy with the clip but I think you get different sort of filling chamber and a balloon that’s ready attached to the valve but thats only from my memory buddy but im sure if you e-mail them they’ll tell you about it (think its called the easy valve system) they said that it dose work with the white ring volcano but its better with the black ring ones, he also said that if you contact them you can send your volcano back to them and they will change it to a black ring if you have a white one just try getting in contact with them im sure they’ll clear up about what the new valve is about and if it will be easier for you to use.

Hope this rubbish I just typed helps a bit buddy

Weird... i let my bag lean over the side... it's not heavier than the bowl assembly so it doesn't tip it over as its filling and as it fills it sticks straight up when its full enough. Thats weird that youres folls over like that

Mine falls over too sometimes I think it depends on how big you like to make you’re vapour bag it seems the bigger they are the easier it is for them to fall.:chin::dance:

also getting an even wrap around the valve bit when you attach the bag to it makes a diffrence, I find it a pain to do too. :pointlaug

let us know how you get on buddy.

I got a first gen (thanks aaron, I had no idea!) and the bag be tipping like a drunk lotto-winner. The other issue I have with it, is the fact that the switches are really too hard to operate one-handed unless you're a giant. I haven't seen the new digital model yet (SWEET!) but I hope they put toggle switches on the bitches. Actually, I'm thinking I might hafta just do it to mine, myself.

Thanks - that was a lot of great info out of the blue. :respect: I didn't know the Volcano had changed (wasn't really paying attention really). I have a white ring analog model. Maybe I'll get a new digital one here in a year or so.

About the clip you mentioned, can you describe it (or better yet link to a pic maybe)? I think I did hear something about the new bags. I did notice that the bag boxes at the local head shop are white with the S&B logo and they didn't have the Brat Schlauch. I hadn't looked into them though because I get the Brat Schlauch bag material for a good price at the local German deli. I'll have to google some stuff now I guess.

I let mine lean over too. But the bag has to be 23" or less (like the instructions say), no extra tie, evenly attached. If the bag is longer or has extra tie or material, the weight of it cantilevered out sideways becomes too much at about half full and the weight of the bag tips it off the base. If the bag isn't evenly attached, it bulges to one side and can be unsteady and fall unpredictably. And if the bag runs up against anything (like a wall or a computer case) it gets wedged and the inflation force can tip the whole chamber over too.

If I get it even and correct, it never gives me trouble. It just takes a half-hour to get it done.

Yeah. If I try to toggle the switches by just pushing, the whole base moves around. I thought of getting rubbery feet to glue on, but I kinda just got used to doing it by resting my ring and middle fingertips on the outside rim of the top and reaching for the switch with my thumb. You can also hook your finger over the temp knob to hold the thing still while you toggle with your thumb.

I would prefer big chrome toggles with separate indicators, myself.

use oven bags instead, I much prefer those

I always thought that would give me a bag that was too big and off kilter. I guess I'll just have to buy some and try. I guess if I could overcome the balance issue, I could just cut the corner of the bag. Do it at the right spot and voila no pleating. Seems worth checking out.
