Im having a problem with some mandala seedlings Im growing ( or trying ) in my flood/drain system. They @ 4 weeks old.I started them in peat pots with seed starter soil and on week 3 moved them into the hydro setup.
First 2 weeks watered by hand with plain tap water ( set out for a week ) no Nutes.PH of 6.7
In hydro I have been changing the reservoir weekly with 5 gallons tap water ( set out for a week )
Third week
New reservoir solution PH 5.8
5/8 teaspoon MG ( tomato ) for 5 gallons of water
Fourth week
Old resevoir solution PH 6.2 ( which is around what I was expecting after a week)
New reservoir solution PH 5.7
1 1/4 tsp MG ( tomato ) for 5 gallons.
Temperature was 72F ( not bad since I had turned of the heater in the grow roow last weekend )
Humidity was 50%
They spouted on March 4th and have had rather slow and unremarkable growth to this point. All of them are pale in color and the early leaves are 'somewhat' krinklely.
Week 2 example:
Week 3, I noticed that some of the leaves where droopy...however rather stiff. The stems where also rather stiff. I believed that they where being over watered and I adjusted the system to flood/drain once a day and adjusted the solution level so it rose to just 1 inch below the growing medium ( Schultz Aquatic Plant Soil )
example:
Week 4 ( now! ) The leaves are still very stiff but not droopy ( maybe i got the over watering fixed...). Im actually afraid to handle them fearing they might crumble. They do not at all feel like young nubile plants. They are overall pale green. No current pics
PH was at 7.0!!! way too high and very very unusual.
I went through the guide to see whats going on. The yellowing seemed like N def but there should more than enough nutrients for these young plants. The leaf and stem stiffness seemed to point towards a def in Sulfur and perhaps Zinc. There sould be more than enuf nutes for them so I think I have PH lockout. But I could figure out why there was such a huge jump in PH.
While going through the guide I found That Stitch recommends NOT using vinegar to lower PH in hydro systems. Up until this current grow Ive never used vingar to lower my PH but started to try it on this grow, having read that it was an alternative.
So I did a very very week solution foliar feeding on the plants and after an hour sprayed them thoroughly with just water ( PH 6.7 ) to rinse the nutes off. Replaced the reservoir solution and balanced the PH to 5.8 using PHdown keeping the nutes at 1 1/4 tsp per 5 gallons. Now to wait and see.
anyway am I missing something?
Stitch you mentioned not to use vinegar in hydro. why?
thanks
