One of the hardest working people I ever met was North Vietnamese.

He was also responsible for most of Qualcomm's LRIP (low rate initial production) test fixtures, in the 1990's & early 00's

He watched the US destroy his country and murder his family. Then moved to the US to live in San Diego.

By the time I met him he had a whopper case of PTSD. Which he treated with Budweiser and Camel and Marlboro.

He taught me that drinking is never an excuse for not getting things done. He had a super strong work ethic and a near-perfect safety record. And I never saw him without a can of Budweiser in his hand.

Since he couldn't go to the VA and be treated for PTSD as a vet, I guess it was the best working solution he could find.

He died of lung cancer in his early 50's. Lived long enough to raise the proverbial Asian genius children. One went to med school, the other was doing great in college, last time I talked with his widow.

Now I have a neighbor who drinks a lot. That neighbor is known for not being reliable, e.g. when it comes to pet-sitting. Last time another neighbor asked him to pet sit, I ended up picking up the slack.

But I learned, though the un-reliable neighbor may have been drunk or hung-over, it wasn't the drug effects that made him un-reliable.

It was his personal choice, to let the hang-over keep him from trudging through the snow to feed the birds he had promised to feed.
