Interesting V.G., a couple of questions:
They look tricky to water, how did you water them? From the top with a watering can of some kind or take them out and dunk them or..? How could you tell when they were sufficiently watered?

I have a similar cabinet and goals as you do and am interested: What is your verdict? HID or LED?

I use a mass of CFL's right now and have never used HID lights but seeing them so far away from the lights just rubbed me the wrong way the whole time even though I'm sure you were doing what you were supposed to. It just is so ingrained in me that the canopy should be as close as humanly possible to the lighting. Is this a normal LED thing or just due to the lenses on the types you used?

I tried some cheap led's for vegging a few years ago and they were pathetic but they were nothing remotely like what you are using there, do you think we've started to reach the viable age of LED's now?

hi de,
watering is as easy as any other pot really, i usually go be weight or sticking my finger in the soil. you can easily get your hand inbetween the screen and the pot

HID or LED? well this cabinet was designed for a 250 hps and so that light does well in here, but i prefer the LED for a few reasons - safer, better quality weed imo, better spectrum... less power used, having said that LED is much more expensive and people often make the mistake of thinking that you will get the same yield with a fraction of the watts which is not true. at present i would say that LED allows you to save 20-40% on electricity consumption , so to match a 250hps you want an led lamp of around 200W.

which ever light you choose will defo be better than CFL, but get used to the fact that you will have to keep them further away whether LED of HID. imo its a mistake made by many growers new and old to keep their light too close. the plants under the bright bit will get stressed and you will not be lighting your canopy evenly. the small problem ive had this run is that i dont have the headroom available in my cab to put the light as far away as i should but i cant blame the light for that and it was a pretty successful run anyway.

GP- thanks!

Bootz - good to see you!

green81 - yeah the C4D is a lovely smoke for sure.

thansk flubnutz, as you know there are lots of different ways of achieving success with any grow method and what i described works well for me but is doubtless not the only way to do it.
check the Cherryjuana plant in my 104w custom grow. i think i posted pics of it well vegged before i fitted the screen. that plant has worked out beautifully.

in other news ive planted a few of the shark x bubba fem seeds i made (Bubba Shush :D)

hi LL they are 15 Litre pots which is about 4 US gallons. i try and fit as big as i can into the cab is i think it translates to yield. i had to cut the lip off these pots in places in order to squeeze them in!

---

the next run is blueberry, haze and bubba, using a new soil mix too. all seems to be going well. the reason why i havent posted anything yet is that im hoping to swap the 3W light for 2 of the 1W units which will give me more room for canopy height as i wont have to keep the lamp so far from the tops.
i was lucky that i am setting up a taller cab for a friend, and i'm going to sell the 3w unit on to him so as i can afford to buy the new ones!

fingers crossed it'll be sorted in the next couple of weeks......

very nice diary and results verdant:tiphat:

I thought I'd let you know I finished my first prototype it's name is MEvo. Half of the panel is experimenting with 3 different whites for every 11/12 reds, the other half is experimenting with green, blue and cool white for every 11/12 reds. In honor of our arguments after the green or not green debate! :thank you:

hey bootz thanks for dropping off the pics! running my crosses outdoors is impossible atn and always pushing it in the UK.... i have to make some f2's of that black cheese, its one of the strongest crosses ive made... did you ever get round to making f2's with it?? maybe this summer?

flubnutz, unfortunately by the time i get the new thread up the scrog training on the haze may be done and dusted.. a few new things are going on...

jubiare, the panel looks great! im looking forward to what you decide on the green/ white debate. there are good arguments for both really. i also hope you start a thread.
