vents in flowering boxes, and bouns question

Hello everyone. Thanks for all your help so far.

I have another question as I move into the building phase of my first grow.

I see how some people have vents (or what look like vents anyway) mounted in their flowering boxes. Does this not let in light seep in during the dark cycle?

I am nearing the process of setting up my ventilation, and I am trying to do this as cheaply as possible, so if I can just put vents down low, then that would be pretty cost effective.

Sorry if it seems like a dumb question. There is so much to process and refine getting this whole thing going. Just when I think I might have things figured out, it all goes out the window.

Also, this is just a bonus question. I am looking to buy some good seeds, but there are just so many names, and crosses of names, all which I have NO clue about. Most of my experiences with smoke has been absolutely terrible, brown, seedy, headache weed. And occasionally some "decent" green stuff here and there. What I would like to get a hold of is a good strain that will help me relax, and will also help my lady get to sleep at night. Something that packs a mighty heavy punch. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks again for stopping by, and helping a newbie out.

Cheers.

Ok, I'll put in my two cents. I am no expert, and learning as I go. Yes, you'll need some kind of vent to allow fresh air into your chamber. Imagine this. Light moves in a straight line, like a laser in Sci-Fi movies. If your intake is a tube (cube, box, etc.) shaped like an "S" and painted flat black inside, there can be no reflection. Light goes in, say, at the bottom of the "s", but cannot travel through the turns because A.-it moves in a straight line, and B.-has no reflective surface to bounce off of. You dig? Also, for "sleepy/relax"herb, nearly any good indica strain should be perfect. Check out some strains, and enjoy. It's easier than it seems! ("Grows like a weed!"). Good luck and...peace.

Thanks for the response carpet!

I think perhaps I was a bit vague in what I was asking.

I do get the light traps. What I meant by vents are what I suppose would be called a vent cover. For example, the type of vent cover one would find on your HVAC outlet into your room.

But perhaps I was just seeing other peoples setups wrong. The pictures are not always the clearest.

Thank you again for the strain suggestion. I do believe I will pick up a heavy indica. Perhaps AK47. Or a nice purple strain of some sort.

Hey Prevy,

The vents you're noticing might very well be darkroom vents, used in as the name suggests - photography dark rooms.

I always use 90deg 6" diameter pvc elbows painted black on the inside. They do the job, as for a first strain, I always recommend Northern Lights. Its easy, heavy yielder, great smoker and is so fruity and sticky even for novices.

I always go with a well established seed bank like Sensi Seed or Dutch Passion, the superior genetics are worth the extra dollars every time.
